Penquins get Mario and than Crosby, Oilers get Gretzky and then McDavid.

Imagine how different both those teams would be if this did not happen. Pittsburgh likely is relocated. I wonder if Atlanta had won the Corsby lotto if they would still be there. McDavid in Buffalo sure would have changed them right?
Penguins didn't just get Lemieux. They got Lemieux and Jagr. Then they got Crosby and Malkin. Those are the kinds of players it took to save hockey in Pittsburgh.

My hot take--McDavid is already the best/most skilled player of all time. Gretzky will always be GOAT as the compiler, but I always thought it was a toss up between him and Mario for raw ability. I don't think he passes those two but I think his dominance amongst peers in an era where you can get dragged around is up there with Mario carrying dudes on him like a running back.
I don't know. His game is extremely reliant on speed (which is a skill), but it doesn't always seem to translate to all situations, like the playoffs for example. It's a small sample thus far in his career, but Mario and Gretzky didn't have the same level of production drops in the post season.

I also worry that his speed will deteriorate quickly at some point. The way he plays, I think he's eventually going to have lower body injuries pile up on him, or one big catastrophic injury.

An upgraded version of Bure is McDavid's closet comp, and we saw what happened with Bure's knees.

I think peak Jagr is in the conversation for most raw skilled player of all time also, but he was kind of enigmatic at times. You didn't always feel like you were getting his best effort many nights during his peak years.

`Devils leading the Bolts 4-3 in a very entertaining game on NHL network with 7 min. left. Devils average age 25 , and their AHL team is now 12-0 to start the season.

Devils win 5-3 in a gutty comeback.

Bolts up 3-1 going into 3rd and 30-0-2 when leading after 2 since start of last year.

4 goals in 14 games in Boston. 6 goals in 268 games in LA. And in fewer minutes per game.

Since we're back to the pre-Cup days now, same way the Kings should've kept Moulson and Purcell, they wrongly got rid of Forbort.

He also has 2 playoff goals since leaving this franchise, which would be tied for 2nd most on the Kings since 14-15.

Another frustrating thing about hockey is that a lot of times players don't hit their stride until they get a change of scenery.

You spend all this time and capital developing a player so they can end up being good for some other team.

I think him bouncing around the league after being stable in L.A. for awhile helped that transition.

shocked how little outside space he has. Edmonton has some nice lots, why would he build so close to neighbors.

nice to see something more traditional after those 2018 solo cup abortions
