Other than a 1st this year and a 2nd next year they have almost a full compliment of picks, including a few extra mid-round picks. They certainly aren't as mortgaged as we were five years ago and look at our prospect pool now.

I'd say, just because they aren't tied into to many long-term deals they are better off than we were then, the real question is going to be how long do they go before retooling/rebuilding, as that will determine how long the rebuild is going to take.

The no longterm deals is a good point. But they've also opened up a youth gap via trading their actual drafted first rounders like hotcakes. I think that's a large similarity, where we had nothing after Pearson and Kempe for a long while. Not a lot of ELCs they can throw out there reliably yet.

If it's one thing the past decade+ has shown - it's very important to have "tiers" of age groups in leadership.

Kings counted on Toffoli/Pearson, without anyone else getting a look. They had to rebuild and had a major gap in leadership.

Penguins always had Crosby/Malkin, but they had a steady flow of young talent who would grow up at various stages to keep them competitive, even with their core leaders out.

Vegas has traded away Tuch, Suzuki, Krebs, 1sts, etc with very little drafted talent growing into the lineup.

Coyotes are such a league embarrassment. This is when Europe regulation gets to be an interesting thought.

How long until he figures out playing for AZ will negativity impact his next contract?
How long before AZ actually wins a game. They've played 11 games and lost them all -- one point. You'd think some puck luck would happen once in 11 games and they'd find a win like a blind squirrel.
Losing sooo much this year (as if PY losing wasn't enough) is going to wear on a person.
That arena, if not already, is going to be so empty as the year progresses. Except for opposing fans. King fans already rep very well in AZ. This year it might be like a semi-home game.

Shhh, they have an upcoming game with the Kings on 11/21. We have the uncanny ability of making horrible teams look good or terrible goalies like Vezina contenders.

Just flipped on the Flames/Rangers and saw a line with Lewis and Richardson, coached by Sutter

Arizona has a lot of problems but that goalie they got ain't one. Somehow he has a .920 save percentage on that team playing in NA for the first time. May just be a flash in the pan but so far he's more than held his own.

After 1st Habs outshooting Vegas 20 to 1 (!)
Lead 2-0, both goals last 2 minutes

Way to jinx it!

After drafting Toffoli/Pearson, DL stopped doing what made him successful, and started drafting the same type players, year after year. All will, no skill, 3rd/4th line guys. The 2015-2016 drafts just killed the Kings. There was so much talent in the 2015 draft.

Totally agree. I believe not getting a first in those two draft really set us back a few years. Not that it's a sure thing we'll get a great player, but just having a chance to draft a player that could be helping the team now pretty much doomed DL. Terrible terrible plan by Dean.

Compounded by the fact that, to this day, we have not yet replaced the productivity of Voynov. That 2015 draft is truly infamous.

To be fair, his first pick was 43rd overall and they did grab Cernak with that pick. The problem wasn't the draft itself but the fact they then traded him away for a few games of Ben Bishop in a trade that made no sense then or now.

Someone mentioned Voynov as well. Imagine this team but with Cernak and Voynov in the line up. It could be a much different scenario.

Or even Cernak + C.Miller
