If you were voted for NHL Commissioner for a day, how do you market the NHL?

Maybe with her doing the game.

Spotlight a new NHL star from different cities each week to young fans. Showcasing everything from their preparation, skill, scoring highlights, day in the life of montage....

Get kids attached early and they will be NHL fans for life...

Remove blackout completely, give access to entire league for 15 dollars a month regardless of area, remove all exclusive broadcasting contracts.

Olympics = your superbowl

Bride FIFA so its USA v Canada in the gold medal finals

--------------------

Players need to be interacting w fans; more free fan fests .. bring kids at game into locker room afterwards .. I NEVER see caps players do anything around DC .. never at some local community festival never around any events

** cocktail fundraisers at expensive venues dont count **

NHL cant do the same as NFL NBA and expect the same results

But honestly .. drop the price of tickets

Wanted to spontaneously take my 12 year old to saturdays game .. $130 per for cheapest seats and that was before fees

$300 for a dad and daughter to get the worst seats in the house?

f*** that

I would market NHL stars more, starting with the league’s greatest player, Sidney Crosby. He’s the perfect human being—he always mows his lawn, brushes his teeth twice a day, and goes to bed early. The man does everything right, and it’s downright inspiring.

Really depends on the level (when I play A and B, it's fine; when I play lower levels, hoo boy...) but beer league games have always been chippier than the NHL.

Especially in non-checking leagues, because (some) players take every bit of contact as a personal affront.

Shout out to the Sport Stable in Superior, Colorado and to the Promenade in Westminster! Y'all keep it real.

I can attest to this having played C and D league as well as officiating all levels of adult league. The lower you go down in level, the crazier the games get. One of the worst (and funniest, to me at least) incident is when I had to toss a couple players out of a C league game for fighting. Once they left the ice, they immediately went after each other in the dressing room hallway and kept fighting each other. They earned match penalties from me for doing that.

I had a guy get kicked out and try to meet us in the parking lot afterwards. We were able to talk him down.

I totally agree. A lot of people I know with kids would love to take them to games, but it's just not feasible most of the time. Especially to drop all that money for someone who isn't really a fan yet.

Just curious, what arena was that in? Ticket prices are outrageous these days. Luckily I live in a fairly weak market, so I can get last-minute tickets on a whim pretty cheaply ($24 after fees for tonight's game vs. NJ). But even in this weaker market tickets can get unaffordable, especially if you're taking 3+ people.

I’d buy an ad during the Super Bowl showing an NFL fan depressed that football season is over. They begrudgingly try watching an NBA game. After the 15th timeout in two minutes they’re even more depressed.

Until they discover the speed, skill and physicality of the NHL.
