I would market NHL stars more, starting with the league’s greatest player, Sidney Crosby. He’s the perfect human being—he always mows his lawn, brushes his teeth twice a day, and goes to bed early. The man does everything right, and it’s downright inspiring.

Really depends on the level (when I play A and B, it's fine; when I play lower levels, hoo boy...) but beer league games have always been chippier than the NHL.

Especially in non-checking leagues, because (some) players take every bit of contact as a personal affront.

Shout out to the Sport Stable in Superior, Colorado and to the Promenade in Westminster! Y'all keep it real.

I can attest to this having played C and D league as well as officiating all levels of adult league. The lower you go down in level, the crazier the games get. One of the worst (and funniest, to me at least) incident is when I had to toss a couple players out of a C league game for fighting. Once they left the ice, they immediately went after each other in the dressing room hallway and kept fighting each other. They earned match penalties from me for doing that.

I totally agree. A lot of people I know with kids would love to take them to games, but it's just not feasible most of the time. Especially to drop all that money for someone who isn't really a fan yet.

Just curious, what arena was that in? Ticket prices are outrageous these days. Luckily I live in a fairly weak market, so I can get last-minute tickets on a whim pretty cheaply ($24 after fees for tonight's game vs. NJ). But even in this weaker market tickets can get unaffordable, especially if you're taking 3+ people.

Until they discover the speed, skill and physicality of the NHL.
