So now the Rangers are making a run at Brady T...according to "brooksy". If Tkachuk is available, what should we be putting on the table?

It's pretty much impossible, the cap will basically never work unless you lose Boeser. The team has no fat to trim whatsoever aside from like... Hoglander.

Vaakanainen is pretty much valueless and we don't know what the pick is yet, but I'm still surprised anyone wanted Trouba for free

I think this generation of former player GMs kind of suck.
Of the notable ex players:
  • Yzerman
  • Verbeek
  • Drury
  • Blake
  • Conroy
  • Guerin
  • Briere
  • Francis
  • Grier
None particularly stand out. Maybe Grier? Wild are playing great but Guerin didn't exactly have glowing reviews prior to this season.

Complete mixed bag/not good.

Some haven't been on the job that long so they get a partial pass.

As for the rest, really the only reason they are still the GM is because of who they were as a player.

Pettersson makes $11.6MM.

If you don't like Pettersson's effort, you're gonna hate Tkachuk. Completely uninterested and lots of stupid penalties.

Also, you get Tkachuk to play WITH Pettersson, if there's a glaring hole at 2C who does Tkachuk play with? Suter? Bleuger?

I don't buy the disinterested part. the penalties are an issue, but he would thrive under Tocchet.

Ugh, Gudas/Trouba together on a bottom team... can we borrow Zadarov whenever we play the Ducks?

Doesn't change that he wouldn't have anyone to play with here. The team would have to acquire a 2C as well to replace Pettersson.

You should be getting a 1st for having to take on that albatross of a contract, not giving up a 4th. That's some Jim Benning level stuff right there.

Rangers once again pull a horseshoe out of their ass to get out of an absurd contract, like they did with Gomez way back (who was 14.6% of the cap at the time, so 13 million in today's cap) and got McDonaugh & Chris Higgins back somehow.

Or, with ironically Drury retiring prior to 2011-2012 (10%+ of the cap at the time), letting them get Brad Richards and make a run to the ECF, who they were also able to do a compliance buyout with.

Team never gets punished for its absurdity, meanwhile we had to live with the Luongo recapture (which was the only contract punished for some reason when it was fully in the rules while signed) because our buffoon of a GM was too dumb to re-acquire Luongo and have him sit on LTIR

Then the team needs someone for Boeser or DeBrusk to play with, elite teams are built down the middle, not from the wings.
Pinto has 2C upside and Brady has played C before too. There would be options. That swap immediately makes us a better team and one that is built for the post season.

I completely disagree, with the exception of last season when he was dealing with an injury, and had two completely useless linemates, Pettersson has always been a beast in the post-season.

You're also banking on Pinto actually becoming that 2C, and moving out a 100pt 1C in the process, and Tocchet loves having as many centres on the team as possible.

It's really not worth continuing, the team won't be moving Pettersson, and they can't realistically acquire Tkachuk for futures from a team who needs to stop rebuilding and add players.

Wait to see what verbeek does with Trouba and the ducks D core before being too judgemental on this particular deal, not like he paid a massive price.

Petterson was good in the bubble playoffs (no expectations, no pressure) , but when it actually mattered last year, on a contending team, he was horrible. You can blame the injury if you want, but if his ability to impact the game goes out the window when playing through something, it's cause for concern IMO. Leon Draisaitl played through a broken rib and finger last spring....and we couldn't slow him down much at all.

I would not be surprised at all if they traded Pettersson before his NMC kicks in on July 1st.

Paid nothing really. Just used their available cap space. Mint, Zell, Lacombe are all lefties. So, I get adding a veteran on the Right Side.

Is Trouba for 1.65 years at $6 mill real money but $8 mill cap hit better than going to market and paying the equivalent of the a Dman that would cost something close to the $25 mill they gave Killorn at 32 to play for them?
