it is still shady. we would not get away with it.I believe both the Rangers (Goodrow) and Blue Jackets (Marchant) have done this before. Different regimes, but there is precedent.

Klingberg's decline was largely due to injuries. He's currently been out for over a year while actively trying to rehab and come back. In his last healthy season he was one of the best overall defencemen in the league, an excellent penalty killer, and elite at suppressing shot attempts.I don't think anyone doubts he has good offensive skills. But we've seen plenty of one dimensional offensive defencemen (Klingberg etc) who have been exposed when they aren't in a cushy situation. I'm just happy he has arbitration rights next summer and the Oilers are going to have to overpay him like they did Nurse.
With Goodrow, since nothing was exchanged between SJ and NYR, it can't be considered shady. Cut throat, yes, but not shady.it is still shady. we would not get away with it.
I think Ekholm is making him look at lot better defensively than he actually is.Yup. People love to sh!t on other teams players instead of looking at the reality. To what purpose that serves I don't know. Bouchard is a unique player with gifted great vision and offensive awareness, plus a great shot and knowledge of when to use it. His defence is suspect but he makes up for a lot of it by being on the offence most of the time. Definitely a player to be reckoned with.
So it happened 19 years ago and now Drury has done it twice.
Maybe it'll work out in the short term for him but no agent will allow their player to sign anything but a full NMC with the team as long as he is GM there.
For sure the injury issue impacted his career and prior to the decline he was a good top pair defender who had a top 20 shot attempt differential (+553) over ~ 300 games in his top years before the decline began. for perspective, Bouchard in his last 270 GP is +1410. Everyone and their dog knows McDavid has had a massive positive impact on those numbers, but still, he's a non trivial piece of the puzzle for them and i sure hope he digs his heels in this summer end gets paid. Bouchard actually has quite good PK numbers, but isn't used there for the same reason Hughes isn't. I get that he's an oiler and we all want him to suck, but (sadly) he doesn't.Klingberg's decline was largely due to injuries. Desperation at its finest.Benning level trade by Verbeek. Oof.
It’s good because ours isn’t one.I think this generation of former player GMs kind of suck.
