But when is it going to click? You'd think it would have by now and we just choked another series to a team that I would say is weaker than NYI or BOS.

That was some insane physical hockey with both teams taking no shortcuts. I didnt see us play that way consistenly in the Habs series and thats a first round series that this core needed to show up for and win.

Just dont think we're built for playoff hockey and its intense physical nature.
We've looked worse as we've gotten in slower series. That series was physical tonight, but not slow IMO. We seem to be fine with physical, especially at a high pace because it forces us into quick decisions and plays. The more we stop, slow and think the worse we play Imo

It may never click for this core and that's my fear. I think JT is a constant, Matthews effort and physical play is there, but not the results. Marner is just ridiculously inconsistent and I fear as the pressure builds he's wilting.

We need a complete re-think to the whole structure of what we're trying to do. The whole system needs changing. Can you imagine SDA or Robertson playing in this type of series. Like wtf do we do?
Yes. This series wasn't about size, it was about pace and physical play.

Guys like Palmieri, Beauvilier, Barzal, Pageau, Cizikas were great for the Isles.

their GM is pretty good too.... :sarcasm:

Trotz as Coach is still the big win, I think.

Most of that roster is still, to this day……

GARTH SNOW.

Lou added, but Barzal, Beauvillier, Nelson, Cizikas, Martin, Bailey, Clutterbuck, Pulock, Pelech, Mayfield…..¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Credit where it’s due says someone integral isn’t being mentioned much.

What? There's no plugs on the Islanders. Mikheyev, Engvall and Thornton were plugs. Islanders 4th line is hard-hitting and wears teams down.

They are basically the 2003 Wild 2.0. One star forward, 2 goalies, a proven coach, and basically a bunch of no skill no name grinders.

The Islanders are impossible to root for- they are a dead puck era clutch/grab/trap team that's allowed to get away with everything because the refs swallow the whistle.

We might as well go back to the early 2000s where basically you could win with 10 Bobby Holiks.

who hired Trotz, who brought in Palmieri Zajac, and the guy who shut down the Bergeron line all f***ing series in JG Pageau try again....

I don’t need to try again.

More than 50% of the forwards are in there as a result of someone too many in the fanbase treat as dog’s dinner.

Well one of the main jobs of the GM is to pick the right coach.

Wasn't the Bergy line roughly PPG? Albeit on the back of a strong PP

Just stop, give Lou his due. Nobody is saying he walks on water and his utter genius crafted the roster. What Lou does do, strongly impart a winning culture, accountability and a hive mentality. It’s a winning formula, and it’s no accident what’s happening now that he took over the franchise.
