I'm 27, I have been optimistic about a Leafs Cup in my lifetime based on nothing more but probability. I am no longer suffering that delusion.

27 is too young to lose your optimism.

He was bad, but I do think age contributes to his poor play. For a powerforward, getting to 32-33 and beyond playing that way is hard miles, Hell Wendel Clark called it a career at 33.
I'd say it was a bigger miss for management than the fans. It was by far their best chance to get a few playoff round wins. They could easily have zero when they get fired. That will make finding any future employment difficult.I don’t look at the opportunity to get kicked in the ass by the Golden Knights to be a once in a generation opportunity. Our standard was very high coming out of the rebuild and the mission statement was to be in the Tampa Bay class and make short work of the Bruins. Win a Stanley Cup. There is so much work to do and it can be discouraging to think we might take some steps back. But the first step is to be clear headed about where we are as an organization and hope tough and correct decisions are made to get things back on track.
Leafs need so much more of that. Hyman and Foligno were supposed to but both were battling injuries, and Simmonds is just too old now and he took a beating that series. Need more guys able and willing to lay the body, less useless slugs like Engvall and Mikheyev that wouldn’t hurt a fly and have no offensive talent to boot.
Mikheyev is huge for our PK, and is one of the better guys in the league at it. I think as long as you temper your expectations (pair him on a 4th line with Spezza to provide some speed and use him for his defensive/PK abilities), there is a ton of value in a guy like him.
Engvall may be a little bit more expendable. Far from a "useless slug" but somewhat of a lesser version of Mikheyev.
We need more guys who can play but know how to play in the tight areas, and that involves a lot more than laying the body. We tried Vesey, Thornton, and Simmonds, but we need better skill and skating ability than those guys provided.
I am looking at a guy like Brock McGinn for example, but hopefully we get someone better than him. Joey Anderson could be an internal option for it as well.
Matthews is a work in progress but his physical buy in was good up until the end of the series. Marner is just unacceptable in terms of what normal hockey buy in looks like even for a skilled finesse player.
Is this the first time in the playoffs at the Habs are trailing in the 3rd?

Winnipeg was almost a bye for them. What a disgrace that series was. They haven't trailed in their last 7 games.
Mikaheyev is trash. We gave up 2 pp goals in game 7 he has no points in 12 games
He by far is most overrated player on this team. There are plenty of players who can kill penalties and skate for league minimum
See: Tobias Reider
Out penalty kill went to shit right after Muzzin left due to injury. Hardly a coincidence. It ain’t Mikheyev or Marner who stirs the PK drink.
Gallagher is making me laugh with these 55 foot slapshots.
