I notice Vegas doesn't skate the puck back into their zone when they have the chance to just chip it out past their blueline, especially when they know there's a Hab player near by.

They also rush the puck in very clean straight lines right towards the net. Even on a 2 on 1 they have two guys skating a straight route like they’re on table hockey rails. Pass it. Or shoot it. Clean, straight ahead and with urgency.

Leafs need so much more of that. Hyman and Foligno were supposed to but both were battling injuries, and Simmonds is just too old now and he took a beating that series. Need more guys able and willing to lay the body, less useless slugs like Engvall and Mikheyev that wouldn’t hurt a fly and have no offensive talent to boot.

Simmonds didn't take a beating nor is he old. He just sucks

Lets not bail out players because we like them as a person. Good guy. Sucks at his job.

This is what I don't get about our game plan. Yes, I understand wanting to keep possession of the puck, but when you've been hemmed in your own zone, you shouldn't think about going back behind your net. Flip it out of danger and change

Vegas has a lot of trouble giving and receiving a clean pass. Or is this game just a blip? It's like they have a lot of guys with stone hands.

Ok now i'm worried. Montreal seems to be suffering from the effect of delay that puts their timing and intensity slightly off. Not Price though... that dive could've won gold in some Olympic competitions, but it's just too bad he didn't save it.

It’s hard to maintain a pack mentality and physical buy in for the middle of the roster when the top of the pyramid is a boy band.
Matthews led the team in hits, and players like Simmonds and Thornton shouldn't need to see Marner throwing hits to buy in physically anyway. I just think we have to stop expecting players to join the Leafs for a year and actually give a shit about winning in Toronto in that time period. Especially players who are many years past their prime

Simmonds has a lot of mileage on him so you kind of understand if he has some limitations.

First games Vegas never looks good. Then they start to wear you down

Would love to see caufiled getting leveled by Reaves

Our Leafs blew a once in a generation golden opportunity to be right here where Montreal is, and we needed to do was close out a 3-1 series lead and defeat Winnipeg to do so.

Next year when we're back in the Atlantic with TB and Boston and fast charging Florida (with coach of the year candidate Joel Q) as well as Montreal things are going to get real again, as well as competing with the Metro Div that has at least 5 teams capable of playoffs or wild card.

Final 4 or bust was Leafs minimum floor for expectations this year based on QofC.

I'm 27, I have been optimistic about a Leafs Cup in my lifetime based on nothing more but probability. I am no longer suffering that delusion.

Matthews is a work in progress but his physical buy in was good up until the end of the series. Marner is just unacceptable in terms of what normal hockey buy in looks like even for a skilled finesse player.

Hard agree. You expect your RR winner to put the puck in the net more than once but he was at the very least effective away from the puck and showed a physical dimension I didn't think he had, alongside a consistently improving defensive game. Marner was simply invisible. Full blown yipped. That guy needs a sports psychologist like no hockey player I've ever seen. Night and f***in day.

I don’t look at the opportunity to get kicked in the ass by the Golden Knights to be a once in a generation opportunity. Our standard was very high coming out of the rebuild and the mission statement was to be in the Tampa Bay class and make short work of the Bruins. Win a Stanley Cup. There is so much work to do and it can be discouraging to think we might take some steps back. But the first step is to be clear headed about where we are as an organization and hope tough and correct decisions are made to get things back on track.

He was bad, but I do think age contributes to his poor play. For a powerforward, getting to 32-33 and beyond playing that way is hard miles, Hell Wendel Clark called it a career at 33.
