Gallant took an expansion team Vegas in year #1 to the Stanley Cup finals that is the only item that needs to be his resume to know this guy knows how to coach and motivate his team.

Things like winning the World Championships recently with a bunch of castoffs only confirms this is a good hire.

Last season the NYR had more points than Montreal did, but missed the playoffs only because of the new Divs and rules.. If I were Dubas and Keefe this hiring of Gallant by NYR, would make me nervous as it puts another team firmly in the mix for one of the playoff or WC spots in the East that our Leafs will need to compete with.

A coaching battle between Gallant vs Keefe is not a fair fight based on past records.

Jeff Gorton has built a good program for the New York Rangers. Good drafts, deep pool of talent. Available as a GM.

The reputation of the North Division is on the line tonight. Lets see if they are who we thought they are.

Pfft, screw the reputation of the North. I’d rather the Habs get swept and have every pundit be right about our division being crap than have Montreal push this to like 7 games or God forbid win and vindicate those that defended the division over the season.

It makes me so f***ing sick seeing the Habs in the final 4.

Our Leafs blew a once in a generation golden opportunity to be right here where Montreal is, and we needed to do was close out a 3-1 series lead and defeat Winnipeg to do so.

Next year when we're back in the Atlantic with TB and Boston and fast charging Florida (with coach of the year candidate Joel Q) as well as Montreal things are going to get real again, as well as competing with the Metro Div that has at least 5 teams capable of playoffs or wild card.

Final 4 or bust was Leafs minimum floor for expectations this year based on QofC.

shoot, i really wanted GG behind our bench
Of course the Rangers hired Gallant.
And Florida hired Q.
You don’t think these teams are watching Toronto to get ahead of the curve?
They are watching Boston/Tampa/NY/Vegas/etc.

What would bother you more.
Learning how pitiful the North is and we couldn’t win a round or finding out you can win the Cup with Danault as your top 6 while we spend half the cap on 4 runway models?

The latter I suppose, though I wouldn’t be too mad about either option. These Leafs have already proven to be frauds so the North being awful is about right. Winning with Danault in the top six would be gross only because it’s Montreal, but it would give me hope that our management sees that and would be more willing to move someone from our bloated core to address other team needs.

If they don’t see it now I’m afraid to tell you the rest of the story.
It will need to wait for a new GM.

So it pays for a d man to have a slapper? And noticed how Pietrangelo just slaps the puck out of his zone at the blueline...no spinorama back into his own zone only to lose the puck...

Couldn't agree more my friend.
