I noticed how good of a passing team the Islanders are. Very impressive. That is when I realized they weren't the Islanders of a few years ago that bored me to death. Any team that passes that well can eat clock like crazy by just passing it around. You need intelligent players to make it work and they can't be sissies. Not going to work here.

In hindsight sure fire Babs and hire Trotz but at the time, no way, especially since Trotz was available when he was fired by Nashville and Shanny passed. Gallant is out there now and Dubas is standing pat with his coach. Tells you all you need to know about Shanny and co.

This Leafs management trio is now pot committed and all in, virtually connected at the hip, and this is the "Shanaplan" always was and always will be in terms of management hierarchy and personnel.

One could give lots of examples of better GMs and better coaches than Leafs currently employee, or have passed up opportunities on. No use pointing fingers or passing blame.

In fact Shanahan in house decision to move on from Lou Lam to Kyle Dubas, wasn't based on team performance, as how could it be as the Leafs were just coming off a 100 year franchise all-time best season?. That also tells you all you need to know about Shanny and co and how committed to this they all are now.

I think this sequence is a good example of something we're just not capable of.

There's a trade off between controlling where the puck is going to be and who controling who has it. Keefe wants us to never give up the puck, but that also leads to us having a lot of dead time with the puck on our sticks in our own half of the ice. Babcock was the polar opposite and wanted to stretch pass the puck and get it into the opposition's end at the expense of possession. There's a time and a place for both, but we're always swinging from one extreme to the next and not making the in-game adjustments like the Iles are in that video.

So is it just because Trudeau is a Habs fan that this country is going all in with this "Canada's team" crap? Or is it because they won out in the unique Canadian division? I can't recall ever seeing this kind of nonsense from official government outlets or national landmarks when the Jets and Canucks went far over the past decade. Hell even when Montreal went to the Conference Finals in 2010 and 2014 it wasn't this bad. The Senators too for that matter.

This is the only year any team could legitimately claim to be "Canada's team". I'm sure they'd be pumping Toronto's tires just the same if they didn't blow it.

Sucks Gallant got hired by Rangers. I really wanted him as a coach

If Laf turns out anywhere the player he was projected to be then watch out

Fox looks legit, they have strong goal tending and a good offensive cast

Rangers next 5 years looks better than Leafs

Panarin is a top 5 player in the league when he's on and is great playoff performer

Rangers are also not a p**sy team. After Wilson's shenanigans they came together as a team to exact on ice justice.

Rangers IMO got stronger as a unit together after that. That team will be hard to beat IMO

Really a sad state of affairs when you have to hope for your team to suck so ownership can fix it’s management, it’s like tanking for draft position, yet here we are......
I really wanted Steve Yzerman back when the Red Wings were courting him. That would have been sweet.

Rangers hire Gallant

great hire, would've loved him behind our bench

Gallant took an expansion team Vegas in year #1 to the Stanley Cup finals that is the only item that needs to be his resume to know this guy knows how to coach and motivate his team.

Things like winning the World Championships recently with a bunch of castoffs only confirms this is a good hire.

Last season the NYR had more points than Montreal did, but missed the playoffs only because of the new Divs and rules.. If I were Dubas and Keefe this hiring of Gallant by NYR, would make me nervous as it puts another team firmly in the mix for one of the playoff or WC spots in the East that our Leafs will need to compete with.

A coaching battle between Gallant vs Keefe is not a fair fight based on past records.
