Islanders about to lose 5 straight games..Yikes

I prefer teams that come and play the Canucks to be fat and happy.

us playing a shit team on a losing streak, you know what that means?

Have you been paid attention to the Avs lately? They have been getting blown out. This isn't the team that won the cup 2 years ago. The top dogs in the west are Dallas, Vegas, Vancouver and maybe LA.
I forgot to include dallas as well, good point.
I feel like avs are underachieving so far, I wouldnt take them so lightly.

Islanders are garbage up front, terrible defensively. They’re an AHL team without Sorokin playing like a god
They lack any high end talent. Barzal is their best but he’s a 68-70 point guy over 82 games. Kind of need a couple more talented guys as you can’t bring it for all 82 games. Need a few wins just on pure skill.

let's be honest, if pettersson made resigning here contingent on the canucks hiring his junior coach everyone here would be demanding tocchet be fired immediately

if it was petey i’d tell him to gtfo and trade him at what’s probably his all time peak value

if it was hughes, then his dad would be the coach tomorrow and his mom could be gm for all i care

Catering absolute everything around one person is f***ing ridiculous in the NHL.

Even if that player is absolutely generational.

One thing when it’s the NBA and a guy like LeBron comes in and hand picks his teammates and coach. There’s only 5 guys on the court at all times and they all could conceivably play the entire game.

Players aren’t in the ice the whole game (except the goalie) and have to rely on the team.

But hey. Keep doing what you are doing Edmonton. Seems to be working out well.

it is absurd

this has worked exactly once in nhl history and the next two times the bald jackass tried to pull the same crap it resulted in him soending the last seven years of his cracker jack hall of fame career padding his career totals outside of the playoffs

when LA let gretzky choose the team and coach, zero cups

when they let mario start choosing the team and coach, zero cups

when they later let jagr choose the team and coach, zero cups

yeah, hockey is a weak link sport and basically always has been. you need a few stars, but games are often won and lost due to third liners and bottom pairing defensemen. it's nearly impossible to shorten the bench to less than 9 forwards and 5 defenseman, which is where no matter how good mcdavid is, if you can't hide connor brown or deshairnais and they're a liability, the team is f***ed.

Doesn't matter who the Oilers have as coach, here are the real issues:

Dustin Schwartz should not have survived five HC changes. He not only is responsible for goalie performance but most goalie coaches have a big say into who is drafted, traded for, starts, etc.

You can't have Ceci and Desharnais in the lineup playing anything like significant minutes and hope to come out on top.

The corpse of Sam Gagner can't suddenly be parachuted onto the team and see top-6 minutes. That probably means that you suck.

Actually I take it back, Woodcroft couldn't get them to play defence so it did matter who the coach was.

I'm not sold on the Avs as a tier 1 contender. They're running Ryan Johansen as their 2C and Georgiev as their 1G.
They won with Kuemper so they should be able to win with Georgiev. The Johansen thing shows they don't have the depth anymore though.

This will probably get a lot of attention today, and for a lot of bad reasons:

Definition according to UK:

Involuntary Manslaughter
Where an unlawful killing is done without an intention to kill or to cause grievous bodily harm, the suspect is to be charged with manslaughter not murder. Apart from the absence of the requisite intent, all other elements of the offence are the same as for murder. There are primarily two types of involuntary manslaughter, that caused by an unlawful or dangerous act and that caused by gross negligence.

That won't stop the racist idiots out there from calling the poor young man a murderer.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard and the British authorities should be embarrassed.

I have not watched the clip and I'm not going to but there isn't a single person whose opinion I respect who has watched this and decided that it's anything other than a total accident.

Definitely have no plans to watch that video to form an opinion…. Just seems like they are making a situation worse.

Yeah. There is nothing positive that this can possibly accomplish and a whole bunch of negative that's going to happen.

Oilers have not developed a young goalie since like Ranford. Cujo to Salo to Roloson to Dubnyk (their first in 2004 but throughout his entire 20's til 2015, the Oilers were a bad team. He wasn't going to save them out of that), Talbot, Koskinen, Smith, Campbell. Broissant was the other young goalie they had that they tried to be developed and didn't make it with Edm. Did well for himself after leaving the Oilers.
Not sure why they put so much faith into him. Passing on the top rated goalie in 2016, 2017, 2021 in favour of a Forward when they had nothing else coming up in the system.

Someone high above must really like him to get through multiple HC changes.

I think I mentioned I watched the video after my son let me know he had accidentally come across it on Tiktok. I wanted to see what he had seen so I could talk to him about it.

It was a complete accident. Plain and simple. I realize the definition of manslaughter is that it was accidental, but still.

The racist morons out there on social media calling the guy a murderer at the absolute lowest common denominators of the Earth.

Yeah, I've watched the clip as well. As I said previously, I'm going to assume most of the people commentating don't know how to skate and wouldn't understand how something like this could happen.

I am absolutely shocked that he got charged in this situation. It's only a fundamental misunderstanding of skating that would lead to this conclusion even being explored as a possibility.

It's a truly awful situation and one of the more disturbing things I've seen because we know how it ends. But it's not a crime.

Personally I don't think McDavid brought in his old coach. This just seems like a lot of people trying to bad mouth the Oilers. Which is fine but petty in itself. Some of the stuff they do sure is questionable but McDavid said he was surprised by the move and I believe him. Why lie if he has that much power and belief in himself? A narcissist would surely toot his own horn there. I don't think Connor or even the Oilers think this is a surefire strategy and it doesn't seem to me that McDavid is trying to be a GM either or we would have had more of an inclination about his beliefs before this move.

To me it looks much more like management and ownership grasping at straws. Although Knoblauch does seem to have a pretty decent abstract.

This is basically how I've seen it described by every single person who understands hockey and who has opinion that merits respect. Total freak accident, nobody to blame.

Now they've basically just given a platform to the racists. Gross.

If the case goes to trial, it'll be an interesting one. A skate blade flailing high after a body check and accidentally slashing someone's neck isn't in the same planet as running a red light then ramming a car in an intersection.
