hmm. do you mean this one?

BTW, why there was a pic of him wearing a canucks jersey all over the internet?

Pretty crazy if people are using this as some sort of evidence for Petgrave having a history of doing this kind of stuff given how ironic it is. He hits someone and then - like what unfortunately happens in hockey sometimes - the skates of the guy he hits go flying up in the air in an extremely dangerous way.

So yeah, I'm not sure this is the evidence people think it is.

That also happened 13 years ago.

Yeah, you have to have some sort of crazy agenda to think that this is any sort of evidence against Petgrave.

His skate comes like 18 inches off the ice nowhere near anyone while he's throwing a hit. And as you say, quite ironically the skates of the hit player could have killed someone if they were in the wrong place and this kind of highlights the sort of weird stuff that can happen in a contact sport.

How is this relevant to what happened? Because the guy who gets hits skates came up in the air while he cartwheeled through it?

EDIT: This is a question to everyone at large - not trying to sound accusatory to you, egghead.

I haven't watched the video and I won't, but after reading a fair number comments from people who did there seems to be a consensus that there must have been some intent with the kicking motion he made.

Manslaughter still seems like a stretch in that case - it was a freak accident no matter how you frame it.

I've been on multiple juries (weird how I can't get even three numbers right on the 649 but somehow 'my number' seems to come up on the "random" jury duty summons list) and its pretty hard to get 12 people to agree one the same verdict (was on one civil case which settled out of court before the case barely started - was told alot of civil cases end up this way).

I think they're trying to point to how it looks like Petgrave's follow-through is high. Then take that and extrapolate it as a deliberate maneuver to make contact with the player he's hitting.

People are saying that somehow his skate coming 18 inches off the ice (near nobody) as he throws that hit 13 years ago somehow confirms that he has a history of recklessly intentionally wielding his skate blades as weapons.

Obvious agenda is obvious.

Looks like he swings his leg out to get a piece of the guy after he misses a check. Not great but would likely be a 2 minute minor for tripping.

Almost sliding under the radar with this news is the fact that Hockey Canada has ruled on punishment for players deemed to be involved in the 2018 WJC scandal, but as an appeal has been filed, no names are being released.

Hoping to see some real punishment here, and hopefully not this

I don’t want to hear anything about cancel culture either if they get punished. I'm all for giving people second chances if they have actual remorse, own what they have done and face the consequences, and grow as a human being. What they did was not just illegal, but morally reprehensible. They haven't faced any consequences, had a major corporation sweep it under the rug so they could play in the NHL. Never playing in the NHL again is just a start.

The Fifth Estate episodes, which go into a fair amount of details around the texts some of them sent the victim after the fact, and testimony from both sides about the night itself, are hard to watch. These guys deserve a whole lot more than just "hockey punishments". They deserve criminal charges.

There was virtually zero contact, and certainly nothing that would lead to his leg being that high (he wasn't submarined).

Thug mistimed his hit and deliberately kicked his leg out to make some kind of contact with Johnson. Obviously didn't intend to kill him. But 100% negligent use of his skate.

Definitely seems like he was being reckless and careless with his skate and thats all you really need for manslaughter.
