Oilers don't have a cathartic coaching bump so far. Clearly a bit shaken/uncomfortable from the firing.

Knoblauch looks like a younger Hakstol, maybe minus the PTSD of coaching a bottom feeder. Give him a few games.

I wonder what happens when McDavid’s junior coach tells him he has to play the defensive side of the puck as well. He’s ignored 4 other coaches..a couple of who are extremely strong defensive coaches.

And a post…

So close to 2-0

At some point it has to be toxic to know a player is essentially the GM

All signs seem to point to the fact that it's actually the Coilers themselves who are gathering all these people from McDavid's career like a game of Pokemon, in an attempt to make him want to stay with the team. All this is doing is two things: 1) it shows that the Coilers are desperate, and 2) it is drawing more attention and criticism towards McDavid, which I'd imagine is something he's not at all happy with.

Islanders look very mediocre.

Would be ironic if their desperate attempt to appease to him is the reason he end up leaving. The media attention in Canada is already more than most players can take (apparently), the last thing any player would want is to be blamed for off-ice stuff. Maybe McDavid is pulling the string behind the scene, maybe not, but either way there are fingers pointing at him now, and it can't be comfortable for him.

If Draisatl leaves in a trade or as UFA, I can't see McDavid staying either.

For the last few years I would watch non Canucks games and just think “oh yeah we’re actually that bad and there’s a long way to go.” It’s nice to finally not feel that and be able to appreciate and recognize how much better they finally are this year

Yeah I can definitely see this happening too, though at this point it still feels like a bit of a tin foil hat moment that's looking a bit too far and too much.

Still, even the possibility of such scenario as you described happening should be very concerning, both to McDavid and the Oilers themselves. The Oilers, through years and years of managerial ineptitude, has put itself in the position that's not unlike a hopelessly loser kid who's answering to every whim of his hot blonde classmate, in a sad and pathetic attempt to get a "aww you're so nice" from her.

And to quote Bill Burr: Just agree with her, maybe she'll touch it!

And yeah, if Draisaitl bolts, McDavid won't be far behind.

Yeah I think that is probably what is happening but it has to be pretty toxic at some point for the team knowing the team is doing everything to please 1 player.

Don't really follow McDavid or Drai off the ice, but on the ice they have got to be some of the most unlikeable stars in the NHL. Whiney, dirty, pouty. Hard to cheer for them.

One of them leaves as UFA, I can see the other one go. If leaving in a trade, it should depend on the return

For sure, and it again demonstrates the seething desperation of the Oilers, they literally have nothing to show for after having McDavid plus Draisaitl here for almost a decade, that alone should be one of the most embarrassing "achievements" in modern NHL.

You mean modern sports. All those draft picks, even before McDrai were a thing, and they've won nothing, nada, zilch.

Just realized that the Islanders might fall into a similar category as Montreal with respect to team construction except they seem to keep 2nd liners/2nd pairing defensemen *forever*.

You just know he’s got a 7 year contract for Cal
Clutterbuck ready to go.
