Not surprisingly, it seems to have had no impact in our beer league. I started wearing a neck guard immediately after the incident and have no issues in doing so. Of course, our league is full of old-timers, many of whom do not even wear half-visors (!!!). Someone actually lost an eye a few years ago after getting hit by a deflected shot (he did not wear facial protection) and it had very little impact on uptake on protective equipment.
Anyone who doesn't wear a full cage in a beer league needs their head examined.

Maybe that's the issue - they took too many shots over the years! I'm actually surprised that the local rinks and their insurers do not require that basic level of protection as a condition to play.

So for those that are new to hockey, when you are a contender, you mostly have your core in place, and you rotate the other pieces to fit via trade/UFA. If you don't win, you try to win the next season. That's how hockeying works in the NHL.

So this absolute gongshow narrative about 'wasted assets' being only specific to Dubas is false. Every single contending team does that and makes trades like that, but it's really clowning to go that far. That's a narrative that a lot of LCD's just can't seem to let go of. At least it wasn't two 2nd round picks for 18 games of 2 mid/late 30's 4th liners.

Pathetic when one has to go pages before seeing anything of value anymore.

My rule of thumb is that if your team isn't paying for your insurance or medical care, you should wear a full cage

Also - those poor Oilers. Well anyway.

I would never count a team out with McDavid on and they can come back from this but this team isn't much different from last year but looks like a former shell of itself.

The dark turtleneck poking out under the jersey has always been stylish to me. Add the life saving protection, and it's chef's kiss.
