Oilers got a good mix this year. Goaltending is a question mark but they're got the potential to go deep.

Totally forgot they had Perry.

Hyman with 42.

Keep in mind Pittsburgh doesn’t have their 1st unless it ends up in the top 10.

Just a disaster for Crosby. Pens were sold magic beans.

I think goaltending and defense are just too much of a question mark for Edmonton. That said, it would be hugely fortunate for them if LA passes Vegas. The Oilers should be able to take out LA in the first round, but a first round series against Vegas might be a problem for Edmonton.

I remember so much bullshit arguing with guys about Hyman, saying he had no finish, and now he's going to blow past 50 goals. It's a crime we didn't find a way to keep him, heart and soul, goes to the dirty areas and gets rewarded. He was also hurt for two playoff runs, another thing his detractors here fail to mention. One of Dubas' biggest errors, obviously. Oilers fans lllooovvvee the guy.

You can lament it all you want but Hyman didn’t show this level of finish with the Leafs, no one saw him taking massive offensive leaps into his 30’s

And yes he had injuries for two of the playoff runs but that doesnt explain the other 3 where he wasn’t much of a factor. Had he shown to be more of an impact player in the playoffs I imagine the Leafs make a higher pitch to keep him.

Massive amounts hindsight

Beside having a goalie.
They are a tough tough playoff team.
Fast, big, tough, forechecking, backchecking.
Solid D in Ekholm in the back
McD, Drai, Hyman, Kane and Nuge upfront

Would be nice if they have another winger that can score.

Entire bottom six consisting of nothing but cardio merchants. Acciari is the only guy with some grit. That’s a Dubas roster alright.

I don't disagree it's a mess of a lineup in terms of quality depth but Harkins and Gruden are pretty gritty. That's not their problem at all.

6-0 Oilers.

Christ that forward group looks rough. Crosby, Rakell, a washed up Malkin, and a bunch of plugs. Smith is alright too I guess.
I watched them in Vancouver the other night and it was the Crosby show. Nobody, and I mean nobody on the Pens team seem to know how to play hockey in the 1st period. They were slow, can't make pass....but Sid kept them in the game and somehow willed his way for 2 points

1. 18 minutes isn't top 4 minutes. He isn't trusted to play actual top 4 minutes.
2. I said the team had a small D, and on average it does. One player who is 6'5 and hits less than once a game isn't a big D core.
3. They are a worse team overall than last season. I was talking about last game, in which they got undressed a dozen times by the Flames mid af offence. Their D looked like complete dog shit but you wanted to change the goal posts to the entire season so now we're here.
He plays 19 minutes a night. He gets the 4th most ice time on the team. He plays in the top 4. He gets some of the most difficult minutes. That's somebody who is "trusted to play top 4 minutes". You haven't shown anything about how their D ranks in size, and the defensemen added since last season are 6'5" 220 lbs, 6'2" 200 lbs, 6'1" 213 lbs, and 6'0" 190 lbs. That's not small. They've hovered around the same point percentage as last year through some significant injuries, and their underlying metrics are better than last year. You were making broad statements about the GM, not just the game, and your claims about that game were also wrong. It was, overall, a good defensive performance, even if the defensive miscues they had in the 3rd all ended up in the back of the net. You tried to take shots at Dubas, but all you ended up doing was highlighting the area that Pittsburgh has improved the most since he got there. Much like the defensive improvements we saw under him here.
