Metro is full of so many disappointing teams. The Flyers being in a divisional playoff spot is such an indictment on the rest of that division.
To me NJD are the biggest disappointment out of the Metro. They seemed to be an up and coming team, with some great talent. Tied for second last in save percentage has really derailed them. They are still top ten in goals for... if they had some goaltending, they might be ok... they give up less shots per game than us... very marginally. Islanders I didn't expect much out of, and clearly Washington and Pittsburgh are on the decline and maybe their competitive cycle is over. Columbus.. well, they are a gong show.

Oh, and about Columbus...

The devils are also heavily injured too arent they but agreed on most points.

Wasn't what I saw on the ice last night. Maybe as a whole they have been better defensively but certainly not last night. It might work for fancy regular season stats, but we've seen how soft small defence hold up in hard checking fast playoff games. And they're pacing for a worst finish than last year.
Your critical perception of what you see on the ice in one game is not reflective of the team's performance over the whole season. Even last night, while they had some defensive miscues in the 3rd that - mixed with some poor goaltending - cost them the game, their overall defensive performance in that game was not bad.

I'm not sure where you think you've seen a "soft small defense", but soft, small defensemen seem to actually do quite well in the playoffs. In fact, the last defenseman to win a Conn Smythe was 5'11" and ~185 lbs. And this argument seems misplaced in the first place, considering one of Pittsburgh's big adds last offseason was 6'5" 220 lb Graves.

They've been pacing in a similar spot, on the bubble, around 0.550 point percentage all year. It seems we're destined to have 3 pages of potshots at the former GM every time Pittsburgh loses a game, but I'm not sure going after him for Pittsburgh's biggest area of improvement since last year achieves what's intended.

I’m glad you bring up Graves. The guy who hits less than Gauthier did. Less than 1 hit per game, can’t be trusted to play top 4 minutes, and makes 4.5 for 5 years after this. We would be eating that signing alive if he was here.

can’t be trusted to play top 4 minutes
He says, about the player who literally plays top 4 minutes for his team, in the top 4, and gets trusted in some of the most difficult defensive situations that the 8th best defensive team in the league faces. But hey, maybe 6'5" 220 lbs is just too small now too. Gotta hit up the NBA or the NFL to get a "real" defenseman.

18 minutes is not top 4 minutes. Less than a hit a game, was gauthier big enough? Go to the Pens board that was a dog trash signing.

4.5x6 for 18 mins a night and less than a hit a game as a 6’5 player is a god damn joke.

Give me any of our league min depth D over 4.5x6 for that kind of production. Lagesson/Benoit/Lyubushkin/f***ingHoll are all better signings than that. It’s not even close really. Give me Holl before that contract.

18 minutes is not top 4 minutes.
It's just under 19 minutes, and he's 4th in ice time on the team and in their top 4.
So I guess so far we've established that:
1. Top 4 defensemen in the top 4 of the lineup and ice time that get some of the most difficult defensive minutes can't be trusted to play top 4 minutes.
2. A 6'5" 220 lbs defenseman is small.
3. Pittsburgh improving from the 19th best defensive team to the 8th best defensive team shows that their GM doesn't know defense.
Hmmm...

1. 18 minutes isn't top 4 minutes. He isn't trusted to play actual top 4 minutes.
2. I said the team had a small D, and on average it does. One player who is 6'5 and hits less than once a game isn't a big D core.
3. They are a worse team overall than last season. I was talking about last game, in which they got undressed a dozen times by the Flames mid af offence. Their D looked like complete dogs but you wanted to change the goal posts to the entire season so now we're here.

4.5x6years for 18 minutes a game and less than a hit a game IS A DISGUSTING JOKE.

How are the Leafs favoured to win the Cup? Am I reading this wtong?

Man. For once I hope these guys get it right
I don't know that I would put much faith in whatever those models are, but the Leafs will be one of the favourites going into the playoffs.

My guess is because they have the Leafs as heavy favourites in the first round against any non-Florida team. That alone increases their chances of winning it all

Same reason why Carolina's is so high, especially compared to NYR. They will draw a very mediocre team in the first round.

I guess that makes sense.
