Pens can take over the league in 3-5 years tops if Dubas had the courage to collect the large hauls for crosby malkin and letang
I don't see why there is so much insistence that he should have traded those three. Unless they ask out, I'd allow them to ride their entire careers in Penguins uniforms. Especially Sid.

His first misstep was believing Karlsson was the answer to one more Cup. He still has time to do a rebuild on the fly while the core three ride into the sunset. But moving a 1st for Karlsson and handcuffing the cap with his contract for a few years sets that back.

The darkness is only beginning now. The Penguins are going to be where the San Jose Sharks are now in 2-3 years time. I think they'll likely be in full rebuild mode by year 5 and by the time the Dubas contract runs out they might be seeing the end of the tunnel. That's going to be someone else's team.

Plus the fall off of Malkin this year has been drastic.

0 goals in his last 13 games and 2 in his last 24.

Tone, I see no scenario where the Leafs walk away from MM......rightly or wrongly.
sad truth right here, 16's a great player, but we need a great team.........

Agreed and once you gave Willie 11.5m, you set the table for Marner to get a higher AAV. It is why they will never win with this core IMO. Management is afraid of making the tough decisions. Dubas pretty much has the same problem in Pittsburgh except their core won them 3 Cups so one can see why they remain loyal to them to a fault.
this organization is about making money, not winning Championships..........

Really, Crosby will decide what the Penguins do for the next couple of seasons.

Their GM is a caretaker, and strategist, but he's a landlocked vessel.

Crosby was a Canadiens' fan growing up, but they aren't in any position to entice him to move.

My question is whether he and MacKinnon are buds in life or just in commercials?

could the Av's take on Sid's contract?

They would have to be creative and it's only 2 years.

Keep in mind Crosby is only getting $3mm a year, and this year is about done.

So for a team in rebuild mode it is very little real money, so maybe Hawks / Ducks would take some futures for retention.

love to see Sid have another kick at the can.........

Looks like the Capitals are dropping crucial wild card points to the Coyotes barring a 3rd period comeback. What's this teams problem? They either look good or lose to dumpster fires..

Speaking of the Coyotes defenders under contract for next year ...

I took a look at Coyotes draft history, from the 2017 draft on.... off... have they every had very poor success, given the number of players that they've drafted. Their first round picks, and often high first round picks, have been disappointments so far... Hayton for example.

Macelli has the most points so far, of any player drafted from 2017 on... .he was drafted in the 4th round in 2019....

I think any other GM would have re-signed them all, though not necessarily for the same term and money.
All the players are talented, it’s the money, that and wasting 11 mil on a unneeded JT just to show he’s was the man…….

I can't imagine Pens ownership will entertain trading him.

Now, you can make an excellent case they should move him, but they won't.

Keeping him allows the team to remain even remotely competitive next season, and they're probably thinking more about the legacy/impact of him staying with the same team his whole career. His eventual last game in Pittsburgh before retirement will be an event, a franchise historical moment. Don't think they'll give that up for a few draft picks

They've been the 8th best defensive team this year. They were 19th last year.
Wasn't what I saw on the ice last night. Maybe as a whole they have been better defensively but certainly not last night. It might work for fancy regular season stats, but we've seen how soft small defence hold up in hard checking fast playoff games.

And they're pacing for a worst finish than last year. But hang that hat on regular season stats.

It would be as a favor to Crosby.

Unlike Bourque, Crosby has been a winner, but a similar move.
