What? He waived his NTC? How is that possible?

I assume this is tongue in cheek commentary/sarcasm because people say we cannot trade JT or Marner now, which would be a nonsense equivalency to make. NMCs are much different than NTCs. No one has ever said they can’t be moved if they agree to it; just that it’s highly improbable they would and can’t be strong armed into it.

Pens are a dream first round matchup.

Their top guys are 37 / 36 / 36 / 33 years old lol.

Sorry but I don't care how great your career was. The game has changed drastically today from a fitness perspective. Their odds are close to 0% to win the cup if you're being realistic.

The beating you have to endure / withstand to win the Cup is significant. At that age they'd need to sit out half the season or sneak in through LTIR to carry a team through 4 rounds. The depth isn't there to offset their age unfortunately.

I think Crosby still has it in him, not sure anyone else on that team does though.

I imagine if given the choice Dubas probably still makes the Karlsson deal. I’m sure they don’t relish potentially losing a 1st rounder while missing the playoffs, but they dumped some serious dead weight in that trade.
Some risk and reward there. While getting rid of dicey contracts certainly has its value for both the present and future, I can't imagine any team parts with its 1st round pick without the expectation of then making the playoffs (which obviously hasn't been ruled out as a possibility at this point, but was always going to be somewhat of a risk based on not being a playoff team last season/prior to the trade).

Take from it what you will I suppose but this thing called "buying into the plan" is something I'd like to see from the Leafs instead of big AAVs that will lead to the Cup win

At this point in time they're 50/50 whether to stand pat or sell. If he was gifted that hindsight in a re-do, why would Dubas still make the Karlsson trade? He'd definitely explore other options imo.

If they sell, have to assume they're in tank mode? That alone makes the trade not an option if you're given the choice to make it again. They need that 1st rounder and definitely can't let it slide to 2025 either.

Both teams did well. If you're the Flames, good to get some pieces for a player likely to leave via free agency. If you're the Canucks, you don't think twice about the pieces you just gave up. If they're going all in this year, best to add a top 6 player to their roster and not fret about the fluff they gave up to get him.

So jealous of that trade. He's one of the best deadline options if you care about acquiring guys who have a prime year left. Cap hit < 3 mil in March too.

Would have went well with Bertuzzi and Domi @ 28 years old for core 4 insulation once the new (and real) season begins in Spring.

Not that I think they will even approach either one, but if they wash out early in the playoffs again, it would be due dilligence to approach the idea.

But you are correct. They could both just flat out say no.

Last night's Ducks overtime winner classic case of permitting the pass on a 2-1 for a near empty net goal.

Samsonov don't need no stinkin defenders he'd rather face a 2-0 than have some defender out there trying to play goaltender in front of him.

I'd imagine Pens ownership wanted the team to try and be as competitive as possible while Crosby is still able to play at a star player level

I was wondering about giving Crosby an option to play for a contender.
Thought about with McDavid, then thought maybe with MacKinnon?

Looked at the Avs, how do the Avs activate, if they do/can Landeskog?

Flames took Vancouver to the cleaner with that Lindholm move.

  • Andrei Kuzmenko - 74 points in 81 NHL games last year. Off to a poor start this year but he's talented.
  • Hunter Brzustewicz - The OHL's leading scorer, who happens to be a defender. I'd say comfortably Vancouver's third best prospect.
  • Joni Jurmo - A recent third round pick, who's big fast and physical. He has not really developed into the defender he was expected to be thus far.
  • 1st Rounder
  • 4th Rounder

Seems like a lot for a UFA like Lindholm

If this is any indication of a buyer's market I'd like to not add much.
I think a very specific fit with Kuzmenko being unliked, unused, and with falling production. I think the Nucks have been shopping him for a while. Looks pretty good for both. A club with a great record made a move for an excellent 2 way guy that is built around a very late 1st, an A- prospect and a $5.5M player they didn't want. And they did it early enough to get him acclimated before the playoffs and gained cap space. Flames don't retain, get a younger player back who has scored 39 goals, and assets for the future.

I guess the deal for the Canucks revolves around what you feel Kuzmenko was worth, kind of like the Flames supposedly underwhelming return for Zadorov. They probably offered him to every team in the league once Tocchet gave him the black spot and other clubs noticed the 8 goals and him being the only minus on the team. He and Lindholm both killed their value this year but Lindy has the better resume and an excuse that he is pending UFA on a team that is floundering. Plus now Colorado doesn't get him.

A couple games ago Benoit had a beauty, left the shooter for Sammy, took away the pass, and once the open man was completely neutralized got just enough stick on the shooter when he tried to deke far side and knocked the puck wide. Perfect.
