I think "update" is a bit of a stretch. It's a pretty clumsy way for a police force to admit that they screwed up without trying to admit that they screwed up.

So far... that is part of the vibe for sure, plenty of apologies to the victim. It also hasn't been ruled out, that there could be other charges, but not enough evidence to do so.

Dubas found a replacement for Guentzel:

This screams a typical Dubas signing -- sign a castoff for league minimum to play in the bottom six in the hopes he provides anything of value.

In this case though, I don't mind it. 25 years old. Former 4th overall pick. If you're going to sign a castoff, might as well be one with a moderate upside that would look genius if it somehow can be unearthed out of him.

I am not a criminal lawyer and (thankfully) know almost nothing about criminal law, but the extra charge against McLeod makes me think he was the initial person involved with the victim as the second charge implies that he contributed to the commission of a second offense.

Separately, they are doing their best to not come out and say that the reason this case was re-opened is because new evidence subsequently came to light. Makes me wonder if another player from the team came forward after the fact.

I think it's a great signing... no matter who signed him. League min, buriable if it doesn't work out... it's a no risk signing.

Point two, I think it was public pressure that reopened the case.

The next court date will be April 30th, 2024.

It seems suspect. 5 guys that are not great friends all willing to do something so unlawful is not really plausible.

Now women wanting to essentially get with the team... Yep. Change of heart or perception at some later time, yep.

Seen it all. I just hope the truth comes out.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. If you think these guys weren't great friends and therefore would not have done something unlawful together, how does it make sense that, if this woman said yes to all of them, these same five guys, who aren't great friends, decide to have group sex together?

People meet up for that sort of thing all the time. Its kinda common. Committing heinous acts not so much haha.

I think they will be proven innocent. Just a hunch. Stay tuned!

Nobody is ever proven innocent... just guilty, or not enough to be guilty.

You would be both surprised, and extremely disappointed to know what happens.

First let's see if the Canadian justice system can even get them to trial within the next 30 months.

Heard from someone, in law enforcment, with history in this area and they said it is extremely difficult to get a conviction in these cases.
The reality is that it very much depends on how good a defendant's lawyer is - just look at the Jian Ghomeshi trial. Hire one of the best criminal defense lawyers in the country and there is a pretty good chance that you are going to be acquitted. Ironically, that same lawyer is the one who was hired by Hockey Canada to investigate and prepare a report on the incident.

I don't doubt it and I am sure it could happen, but at the same time there are some women that just like the team sport. From personal experience, knew an instance where one was with 7 in one night. Another instance where one was with a few, there were charges laid months later. Hell for those friends of mine and in the end, girlfriends of the girl stepped up and corrected the record. Nightmare for those boys, good hockey players too.

No thoughts or commentary in my post regarding this specific case.

While I largely agree with what you’re saying, I wouldn’t say people are never proven to be innocent. One example would be the proving of someone else guilty exonerates the falsely accused.

As someone who is also not a criminal lawyer, you might be right, but at the same time, he could take a snack from the fridge when they were done and get an additional charge for stealing or a similar scenario.

edit: additional penalty is not necessary an instigator

The London, Ontario Police Service announced that Michael McLeod was charged with two counts of sexual assault

The second charge arises because he is alleged to have been part of a second act of sexual assault.

I wish it would work like that, imho even in your hypothetical scenario, half the people will still be suspicious.

They can find the real paedophile, get a confession, and a DNA, but you're still fcked . Not to mention if you work as a teacher or anything kid young adult related.Double fked

Case in point, you're never really proven innocent. Not that the court is ever trying to prove you are in the first place.

That was something worth doing. Not like Dubas didn't get something right. This may pan out, or not, low risk

Roy won't be happy with Engvall after last nights showing.

Isles make great comeback down three goals and Engvall turns the puck over with two minutes left on a very soft clear.

Also turned the puck over on the second goal with a backhand saucer pass.
Hard to break those Dubas/Keefe habits!

Engvall or Giordano ... same poop.

I am curious to see how the Oilers come out of the break. Bad time for that. They were rolling.

Also curious to see where Van ends up playong Lindholm.

Nice to see a full slate of games back on
