Around the league part 2

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

They probably think it's a waste of money.

Most of them probably couldn't care less about the Coyotes.

I would be interested to see some survey data on what voters were thinking though.
 
Apparently unions spent millions of dollars on anti-arena development ads because there was no guarantee they'd be the ones building the project.

They were probably thinking that times are tough economically and likely to get worse, and that billionaire sports leagues and owners should pay for their own stadiums.

Have you been to Hartford? It is literally smaller than Glendale, CA. You can drive through it in about 2 minutes. As a resident of Connecticut and being within 30 minutes of Hartford I'd love to have an NHL team there but it would be terrible. There are barely enough people in this state to fill a volkswagen.
 
The only reason Quebec and Hartford ever had teams was because a rival league put them there to compete against the Habs and Bruins.

It's not a coincidence that the former WHA cities, all lost their teams once player salaries skyrocketed. Other than Edmonton, but they were saved by their dynastic history. Hello Canadian Assistance Plan. A Bettman era thing, btw. No team that has won the Cup has relocated yet.

Connecticut has some value.. its the home of the best pizza in the world.. @Pepe's on wooster in no(new) haven... Bandit do you concur?
 
Fold the team, raise the cap and institute a lottery for picking their players. Or just make them all UFA's.

I heard they supposedly changed the rule during the playoffs that a foot could be in the crease if the player kept control of the puck or something. Too bad they didn't let the fans know about it. I remember watching it on TV live and called it right away that it shouldn't count.
 
The problem is they have to stay in the west or we have an imbalanced league again. I do feel for the fans, though. Circumstances just aren't moving in that team's favor.
 
Think Austin would be a great spot, but there's no arena.

I might be in the minority, but I always wanted the Coyotes to succeed in Arizona.
 
I just hope they don't go to or try a market where they've already been, but it is definitely time to move the franchise. The Yotes ownership is trash though and I hope they sell the team first.

Contrast the initial fan response to hockey in both Las Vegas and Phoenix.

The Knights had a ton of hype and support from game one because Las Vegas had been robbed of a pro sports team for decades. Obviously their immediate success helped cement that hype into a real fanbase, but it has remained strong since. The Knights are still a hot ticket here despite a lot of competition for entertainment.

Phoenix never had anywhere near the hype of VGK. Again, doesn’t help that they’ve basically had one successful season in their entire history, but those are the breaks.

It’s just time to move on from the Coyotes. If it was meant to be, they wouldn’t be in this situation. Gary needs to let it go. He got his successful American southwest team, just four hours northwest of Phoenix in a different state.

Over the last several months there has been a ton of talk about bringing a team to Salt Lake City. This in addition to trying to land a MLB team.

I think SLC would be a mistake. The population is much too small. They have fewer people than Reno, NV and I would never recommend putting an NHL team here. They would be the smallest population city to receive an NHL team by like a factor of 5 outside of Winnipeg.
