Frozen Fury: Tijuana
Donkey show during intermission?

The Nordiques played in a small arena and weren't selling it out. Why would it be different now?
I don't think Bettman can take a chance on Quebec because if it were to fail it would be really devastating to him because the owners won't want to have to pay to keep the team going like it has. it could very well cost Bettman his job.

I'd have a lot of conflict tbh - born and raised in SD, but grew up loving the Kings. And now I live in Seattle, and I got my fiancee and her family to watch hockey with the Kraken.

I don't think I could ever stop having the Kings as No. 1, but it may be more a 1a/1b situation.

Although living in SD, I don't think it's a good sports city in general.
At least it has the best ball park in the league. Plus, they have occasionally nice sunsets:

For those who're gonna argue that sunset is enhanced.....it's not. The sky was actually far more orange than photoshopped. It was damn near close to how orange the sky was during the 2003 Cedar Fires.

It’s time to move them back to Canada. Quebec would sell out and the other NHL teams wouldn’t have to keep bailing them out.
It would work for a couple seasons. Then people would realize that it's still the Coyotes and they suck and stop going to games. Kinda like what's happening in Winnipeg and they're a playoff team.

Times are getting hard boys
Money's getting scarce
Times don't get no better boys
Gonna leave this place

Take my true love by her hand
Lead her through the town
Say good bye to everyone
Good bye to everyone

I thought that would be a heavy metal song, but it's some sort of lullaby.

I don't understand why Bettman was so focused on keeping the Coyotes in Arizona. It has been claer for a long time that the city wasn't supporting the team. There are other cities that are craving a NHL franchise, move the Coyotes to one of those cities and say good riddance to Arizona.

No league likes or wants to relocate teams. Go through the NHL's history of it, and how many individual franchises have moved multiple times? Scouts, to the Rockies, to the Devils. Then the Devils might've moved to Nashville sometime in the 90's. Seals, to the Barons, to part of the North Stars, to the Sharks. Atlanta lost a team twice, but even Minnesota, the "state of hockey", not only eventually lost a team, but had that team merge with another relocating team in order to save itself from either relocating(which they did) or folding.

With the Coyotes all but done, that'll be a third franchise that has moved multiple times. Although this one would be the first WHA originated one to do so.

Whalers to Carolina.

Whalers to Carolina.

Multiple relocations. Que to Col too, but it was just the one time.

What are the odds the NHL would've ever put a team in Winnipeg? Or Quebec? Hartford? Or even Edmonton? The league had enough issues over TV and other monetary rights with Tor and Mtl when they stuck a team in Van.

Those were some of the smallest of small markets. They lost their teams when players had more freedom of choice, and the Oilers were famously an NHL farm team once their dynasty days were over.

I would be shocked to see San Diego embrace another growth project and they ahve enough stadiums/arenas for year-round events already.

But I do think an NHL team there would be no different than Seattle. There's a lot more latent/dormant hockey love than you would think, plus already a couple of hometown heroes.

Yet< I do think that's much more of a gamble than Austin. That's a big enough area with enough money and growth that it's practically a sure thing.

I can't see Bettman's pet project moving out of the desert and into Canada.

If they move, it is to somewhere below the Mason/Dixon. Most likely somewhere where they will be one of the only shows in town like KC, SLC or even Austin. I can't see San Diego unless it was the Ducks relocating.

Houston always looms large since it is a huge market. Rivalry with Dallas would be solid.

This seems to be a big factor for Gary

Bettman's job is very safe. The more teams move the more relocation$$ for owners. He will retire not be fired.
That said I don't see why or how Quebec is more risky than say Atlanta for a 3rd time.

By the late 90s most Canadian teams were really struggling. There was talks of both Alberta teams moving as well. The cap has changed everything and would make a difference in a market like Quebec IMO.

That all said, I think the league should push for a Western conference team in Toronto. f*** the regional rights of the Sabers and Leafs. If the league really wants to grow HRR that is how they do it.

I work with a lot of people in Houston and not one of them cares about Hockey. Given the population base not saying it could not draw enough interest, just seems like the give a shit is low low there.

Utah does make me curious.

i bet that MLS team does well there, SDSU was crushing it. maybe they can keep it rolling with MLS games too

San Diego has already had a USL team there for a couple years now, the San Diego Loyal, so I'm a bit sad they won't the be the MLS team in San Diego.

Fold the Arizona franchise, have a dispersal draft of all of their players, and the NHL will be better for the fans.

Seemed kinda weak to overturn the call and make it a no goal. I’d be pissed if I was Florida and if they lose this game. Yikes. Not enough alcohol in my house to ease that pain.
