I think I said it already in this thread, but to me the easiest fix is just making sure your gameday roster is cap compliant.

That way, you don't punish a team for making a pickup while a guy is on indefinite LTIR, but you don't also get the double benefit of the injured player coming back in full, you at least have to sit some cap.

Isn't the issue with how the cap is calculated? Something based on 82 games played....how do you do that for the post season where you don't know how many games will be played?

The goaltending is the problem, you're right, but the Leafs were a top 5-10 defensive team this year and last by roster performance. It's an old narrative that they're a run-and-gun team. I mean they went out and added McCabe, Schenn, and O'Reilly. Those are all defense-first players on top of already signing guys like Kampf and Aston-Reese to fill the bottom 6.
