That's not true, though. There were PLENTY moved at the deadline--including Ekholm, and Ghost for a 3rd, and more--plenty traded early in the season for not nearly as much, and plenty signed in the offseason.

That's my major issue. Indecision is what made this so relatively expensive and risky. I agree its' positive that they're 'trying' but again they're self-inflicted issues AND they're not just suddenly popping up, plenty of us have been noting about the LHD and G situations since summer 2021. It makes it look panicky and against whatever plan Blake had as he's been so ultra-conservative and thoughtful with assets until this point.

Ghost is an awful defender, and the fact they got a 3rd for him was a miracle. The Flyers couldn't give him a way when he was in his prime before ARZ pick him off the curb next to the old couch. He's a taller version of Durzy , but a lefty. As for Ekholm, he has 3 years at 6.2 mil. They Kings didn't have the cap space for that. Also, it cost EDM Berrie, 2 picks and a good prospect. Thats a much more expense deal, without a goalie too. Gavrikov is also 4 years younger.

I agree on the LHD and G situation, but if they're not there at the draft, where do you find them? You have to trade for them right?

I made a lengthy post some time back that had plenty of targets. If you want to pick them apart and suggest THIS was the best solution, be my guest, but there's a reason you won't find much agreement.

You can draft them or trade for them OR you can just sign them when available...like many of the suggested targets over the last two or so years.

I suspect that route will happen this offseason with the same guys, like Mikkola, Soucy, etc.

And again don't get me wrong I LOVE Gavrikov with Roy and Korpisalo, they're the 'right' players for the most part (I preferred Ekholm vastly but whatever). It's just an expense and a risk that didn't need to happen if it were addressed sooner.

Totally agree, but as several former GM's have said, you need two guys to make a trade happen, especially at the draft.

Brock Faber will be in the Wild’s lineup for Game 1 tonight. Put into a playoff game with 0 AHL games played, a week after joining the team from college.

I wonder what Blake and Murray think when they see yet another guy jump straight into an NHL regular spot without spending any time in the AHL.

Do you think they question their own organizational philosophy or do they think all these other teams are just doing it wrong?

Bergeron out of the lineup tonight for Boston.

Their season was too good. At some point the hockey gods will seek to balance things out.

They damn well should start to question it.

Wait is that legal?!?

Next you'll tell me teams have an option once a game to stop time for a minute at almost any stoppage of play they desire!

Also pretty tough line up.

You would think so, but these guys sure seem stubborn as hell. With the poor results with Byfield and Turcotte after heavy AHL usage you would think they would be trying a different approach, but the rumors are that is where they want Clarke. It’s just really sucks, because I consider Clarke to be the same caliber player as Hughes and Faber, but he will likely be getting a shittier less successful development path then those two because our GM and development staff have an archaic view of player development for high end players.
