I'll order you a red cap and a Speedo.
There is still Timo Meier out there, though he is a RFA.
Unlike Hertl, I don't think he resigns w/ SJ.

Yes.Brett's dad?
jeez he's still coming off as an RFA? seems like he's been there for so longThere is still Timo Meier out there, though he is a RFA.

I see the biggest trade already happened. Deadline is going to be so quiet.
Yes.
What the heck are the islanders going to do with Bo Horvat? Golf tournaments?
Lou is 80, and doesn't rebuild. He's invested a lot of term and some money into the Islanders as they are, right now, so it's this general roster or nothing.
Bobby Hull "The Golden Jet" has passed. Definitely not a great human being, but one hell of a hockey player.
Interesting, how so? I see very little relation between the two. Not to mention, one died tragically at 41 yrs old, the other was 84Pretty interesting the difference in media reaction between the deaths of Bobby Hull and Kobe Bryant.
Horrible take, but not surprised. When Blake's time is up, I'm hoping the Kings replace him with this guy if some other team doesn't grab them first:Zegras is a Punk. He is a fantastic and special player, and I think what he has done on the ice has been greatly minimized by many on this forum because of an unfortunate decision made by Rob Blake to not draft him,
Yes, that's right. Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks, and then the WHA's Winnipeg Jets. I saw him play when he was with the Jets.Brett's dad?
I hope you at least said hello and shook Tony and Bobby's hands. Meeting players is always a fun experience, if the players recognize that the fans are the reason why they are able to enjoy making a living by playing a game.Pretty interesting the difference in media reaction between the deaths of Bobby Hull and Kobe Bryant. Not just slightly different but Anchorage to Miami different. But I've given up trying to figure out the media in this country and how they choose to cover certain things.
Either him or Tony Esposito lived in the same building as me when I first lived in Chicago, once on my way down to the garage the elevator stopped and they both got on. Kind of cool, 2 hockey Hall of Famers just heading out to enjoy the day together. I didn’t say anything, in hindsight I wish I had asked for a picture, everyone around Chicago said how great Hull was with fans, much like Mike Trout today he signed for everyone. They are both gone now, that brief interaction was what I thought of today when I heard the news. As I was to young to have ever seen him play.
Zegras is a Punk. He is a fantastic and special player, and I think what he has done on the ice has been greatly minimized by many on this forum because of an unfortunate decision made by Rob Blake to not draft him, but all the complaints about his attitude are totally valid. His actions and comments show he has no respect for a lot of players he competes against. Who on Earth researches things to trash talk players about? This is something that people think is cool and funny? Idk maybe I am getting old but this stuff just seems embarrassing to me, but I guess that is part of the new “Chel” generation of players.
At first trading for AB didn’t seem to make much sense if Vancouver is going into full rebuild, which I think might be very likely, especially if they trade Demko. But with AB being an expiring contract after next season with a modest cap hit they will probably get someone to overpay at next years deadline, especially if they can get him back to the level he was at a couple of years ago.
Also, I have heaped strong praise on Blake, he has done a good job as Kings GM, especially with trades, signings and with the TM hire which has been a homerun. Sorry that some of us don't live in a North Korea type world where the leaders are completely perfect and never make mistakes. If the Kings were down to Zegras and Turcotte (as Rosen has said) they very clearly made a big mistake, doesn't mean his entire tenure has been bad, but that is a discussion that adults can make, maybe one day you can have those types of discussions. And yes, I think if Zegras were anywhere but Anaheim (and certainly if he were in LA) the attitudes towards his on-ice game would be different here.Interesting, how so? Na, I didn't say anything. I always feel like if I were an athlete I wouldn't want to be constantly bothered every time I go out. Again, in hindsight I wish I had asked for a quick picture together.Yes, that's right. Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks, and then the WHA's Winnipeg Jets. I saw him play when he was with the Jets.

Almost right out of college I had a job at Anaheim Stadium and met many baseball greats from my childhood. Always shook hands with them and let them know I watched them with my Grandfather and Dad, and those times meant a lot to all of us.
You are right about the Kobe vs Bobby Hull treatment in the media. They are treated very differently. Kobe Bryant was not a saint.
See I think when people use the term whataboutism it is often an excuse to cover up for hypocrisy or when their own logic comes back to bite them in the butt and they don't want to answer for it.
If we go down the convicted route, should the Buffalo Bills honor OJ Simpson when he passes? In the black and white world of conviction/non-conviction he was acquitted. OJ was convicted in civil court, Kobe was not, because he gave the girl $3m reasons to not pursue it. Bobby Hull was never convicted or tried of spousal abuse for the same reason Kobe was not convicted or tried for sexual assault, the alleged victim didn't wish to testify. It's not apples to oranges, its a legit comparison.
I think it's just certain athletes, politicians, entertainers etc. are teflon and certain others aren't.
I personally don't know how the teams/media should handle these going forward. I see the side that doesn't want bad people to be honored, I also see the side that wants to focus on what the player accomplished as an athlete. I just wish there was consistency.
Fair enough. I deleted all references. You ding dongs are gonna get another thread locked.
Honestly Herby, I don't think the great ones mind at all if you just shake their hand and tell them how much you enjoyed watching them perform. In my time at Angel Stadium (the Rams were playing there at the time as well as the Angels) I met some greats and they were always gracious and liked to here how I grew up watching them with my Dad and Grandfather. Also, I have heaped strong praise on Blake, he has done a good job as Kings GM, especially with trades, signings and with the TM hire which has been a homerun. Sorry that some of us don't live in a North Korea type world where the leaders are completely perfect and never make mistakes. But sadly for you and your partner in crime TKF, anyone who isn't 100% behind everything Blake does is a hater who should be a Ducks fan. What a truly sad existence to live.
Na, I didn't say anything. I always feel like if I were an athlete I wouldn't want to be constantly bothered every time I go out. Again, in hindsight I wish I had asked for a quick picture together.
I feel like I have been lucky with athlete encounters over the years though. I sat next to Gordie Howe on a flight from John Wayne to Detroit (back when they still offered that flight) and that was a pretty cool experience. I didn't say anything for the first little bit, and then had the courage to ask him to sign a piece of paper for my father, he instead reached into his briefcase and pulled out a large glossy photo and personalized it for my father, and then asked me if I would like one as well. I still have it in my man cave. He talked for a little bit, but then passed out for the final half of the flight.
This was also how I met Bob Feller, also on a flight from OC to Detroit, and the same thing, he had glossy photos with him but the experience was amazing. He actually started talking to me about where I was headed etc. and mentioned that he had played in MLB for 18 years, stupid me, not being the sports history nut I am now, spent most of the flight talking about other players he faced that I was aware of (Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays) and what it was like to play in certain stadiums. He was so modest that he never once mentioned just how great a player he was. Only after I landed and talked to my dad did I find out that he was one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the sport and also left in the prime of his career to fight in WWII.
When I was waiting tables in Ann Arbor, Keith Jackson came into my work for dinner the night before the Michigan/OSU game in 2003 and sat in my section, also could not have been a nicer guy and was a very generous tipper. He signed for me and put "Hello Heisman" , unfortunately I lost that somewhere along the years with all my moves.
I know many here disagree with me, but I still have no idea how anyone wanted Voynov back with this organization. I loved him as a player and it definitely hurt the team big time, but how do you cheer for a guy like that after what he did?It is kind of funny how the Colorado incident all worked out for Kobe v. Slava Voynov. The latter was only important to the LA Kings and its fans so off to Russia you go.
