I know many here disagree with me, but I still have no idea how anyone wanted Voynov back with this organization. I loved him as a player and it definitely hurt the team big time, but how do you cheer for a guy like that after what he did?

As far as the rest, ya, it's just double standards that run rampant. During the Me Too stuff when there was a prominent he said/she said sexual assault accusation in the news and I had a friend from high school post on social media "We need to believe all women", no big deal right? Well the guys son is named Kobe. I mean, come on.

Mike Tyson is another glaring example.
I would have been fine with him coming back but wouldn't be out there buying his jersey. I would have been fine with the Kings moving on from him but I firmly believe he should have been reinstated and able to play in the NHL again. Don't agree with what he did, obviously, but I also don't think it is up to the State to determine what goes on with that couple. They both--including the victim--wanted to stay here and move on as if nothing happened. The State pressed charges when she didn't want to. I would argue that she is worse off sticking with him in Russia than she would be sticking with him here: last I heard they are still together.

Now, I understand why the State has to move forward because victims of DV are often too afraid to press charges due to fear of further DV etc...but this particular case was, IMO, different due to the nationalities of the couple. Can't pick and choose who to apply it to (although I would say that courts/judges/DAs do this all the time) so fine: charge and convict. The deportation thing was a bridge too far for me and I would not be surprised if the NHL didn't have a hand in it: makes it real easy for them with the NHLPA if the guy isn't even allowed to stay here.

I might think differently if it happened at any other moment during my Kings fandom since they always sucked at every other moment. Does that make me shitty? Amongst other things I guess it does. I've also enjoyed winning fantasy football titles with Tyreek Hill multiple times. He's gushed over because he's still elite: Ray Rice was washed at an easily replaceable position and Voynov was a Russian hockey player playing for a team that doesn't necessarily have a demanding fan base. Might have been different for Voynov if his deportation ends the Blackhawks dynasty v. sending the Kings into a tailspin.

But that leads right back to Kobe: he was an amazing player and he brought the Lakers titles. 99% of Lakers fans don't give a shit what happened at that hotel in Colorado. Mark Madsen would never but, if it was him instead, he would have been done and Lakers fans would have been fine since it didn't hurt the team.

People make mistakes and they should be given the opportunity to redeem themselves, it’s really not that complicated.

If Dany Heatley could kill a guy without being punished a single game….Voynov should have been allowed back after missing an entire season (and then some).

Lou to Blake, "I see you , looking at my old moves."

Virtue signaling victims are in the millions now.

I know it's probably just me. But one of things i find just incredibly annoying as sports fan is the constant looking back and could have had this guy in the draft or that guy instead of the due we took. I mean sure, i could be a billionaire if i had picked those 6 numbers -- they were right there for me to pick and i blew it by picking other numbers.

As if the GM was deciding between those two exact players and choose wrong. But even if he did, freaking move on. Not to mention sliding doors and all. They also ignore in that complaint about the hits said GM made. Everyone has winning draft picks and losing -- EVERYONE. It's so easy to have 20/20 vision in hindsight. But whatever -- to each is own, i guess.

No...no he couldn't have been....jesus christ what a bad take....(from twitter, not from you AM)

He was picked 20th OA.....so our option at #8 was Clarke......or Wallstedt..........sorry, you go with Clarke every day of the week and twice on Sunday, that's a no brainer....

That's as stupid as saying....Matty Berniers....could have been a King.......

100% he tried and couldn't, because MIN knew they couldn't replace Fleury without Wallsted etc....

2003 we could have had getzbald/bergeron/shea weber instead of brown/boyle/tambellini
Is this turning into the wudda cudda shudda thread? Let me think of my 3 ill post later after reviewing all the drafts : )

Turcotte/Byfield/Clarke or Zegras/Stutzle/Wallstedt?!?

I'd do Turcotte for Wallstedt at this point. I might even do Clarke for Wallstedt but that's because I believe he's going to be the best goalie in the league.

Wonder what it would take to get Wolf out of Calgary. Don't ask their fans, it's reasonably unreasonable.

People always say this in defense of the wrong picks but never to minimize the right ones. If Turcotte were Toews and Zegras were Drouin people would (rightfully) be praising Blake and the staff for the right pick and not saying it was good luck.

And in this particular example for 2 of the 3 choices it did come down a choice between 2 of those exact players (if you believe Rosen about 2019) with 2020 being a clear situation where it came down to a choice between 2 players.

I won’t fault the Kings for not drafting a goaltender in the 1st round, not only is it a huge risk but the Kings got a pretty awesome prospect. I don’t think anyone here would trade Clarke for Wallstedt without question.

Few things amuse me as much as someone boldly proclaiming that others don't know what they're talking about when they themselves clearly don't actually know what they're talking about.

I mean no need for Calgary to deal him

They definitely should have had an eye out for a goaltender earlier, but you can't really fault a lot of their high selections other than the obvious 'we should have selected someone else that was slotted in the same group', etc. They weren't taking a goaltender in the top 10 in any of those drafts as there wasn't a goaltender in the field that warranted it. We know they tried hard to trade back up into the first round to likely draft Wallstedt but the opportunity to move wasn't there.

I agree. I was tempted to ask Russell "So... you think the Kings should have traded Clarke? Or Faber+ to get Wallstedt, which means not getting Fiala?" And I mention Faber+ because this probably would have been the first time Minnesota would have shown interest in Faber in a trade scenario.

I mean, I get it. I was hoping the Kings would get Wallstedt. But hand-waving the process it would have taken to get that pick is incredibly lazy.
