I can't tell if you're joking or not.

His struggles here sure as hell weren't from lack of effort.
Maybe not trying was too harsh, perhaps complete lack of focus was a better word?

I watched most of the game and that did not look like the same goalie that was here for the last 3 years. Maybe playing for a contract lit a fire under his butt, but should that really need to happen to turn your play around?

What were they from?
Who the hell knows. It's sports. Guys go cold and hot all the time.

One thing I did notice about Quick this game is that he was smiling and looking like he was having fun out there.

People have short memories. There was stretches last year where Quick looked just like that and was great.

My guess is playing goal at a high level is similar to playing golf. Just the smallest little tweak in technique or change in confidence level can make a big difference.

Grant Fuhr was so bad for the Kings and then became an all-star again. Felix Potvin was picked up off the trash heap and saved the Kings season in 2021, very nearly defeating two HOF laden teams in the playoffs.

His rebound control still stinks, but Vegas did a good job of keeping shots outside.

If Vegas can keep him tethered to the net, he is much much better. That is the biggest difference I can see.
Not trying to play goalie board to board

Hot and cold is one thing. Putting up terrible goalie statistics for 2-3 years is another. Even with his good season he has the 5th worst GSAA among starters in the last 3 years.

Maybe he was pressing too hard and put pressure on himself, maybe this game was a one-off, but he sure looked a lot more limber than he did here.

That is NOT what happened here...
Quick did not change uniforms and all of a sudden "get hot."
He was much more disciplined, stayed in the crease well, adjusted to high shots, and remained in control on scrambles.
Completely different focus and discipline.
Very frustrating.... especially watching him play that way for THAT team.

With Hill's injury, he knows he is getting all the starts. He plays his best when he is starting most of the games.

7th most goals saved above expected in the entire league last year.

4th best GSAE/60 in the league last year (min 41 games played)

And like golf, it's a mental challenge. You start struggling and it gets in your head. Struggling begets more struggling.

Sometimes a simple change in scenery resets you.
