Eh I think he’s been pretty lucky to rack up these random points since he’s been a benefactor of Kopitar and Kempe. Gonna be close.

No, the stats show a stark difference in both Kopitar and Byfield without each other, and if anything, it's easier to make the case Byfield has been UNlucky with points rather than lucky.

Especially given it's one of the top production lines in the league, @johnjm22 showed that stat yesterday.

Byfield has Trevor Moore Syndrome.

He looks like a guy who's going to have a perpetually negative Goals Above Expected.

I checked on my theory, and sure enough. QB and TM are 21st and 22nd out of 22 skaters on the Kings in GAE.

That's what happens when you're a line driver but don't benefit statistically.

Implying he's better at wing, and should be a winger, is jumping to conclusions.

Small sample size. Too early in his development.

This isn't a Vilardi situation. QB has the attributes to cover more ice and be a play driver.

Not developing him at center would be the stupid thing to do.
100%. QB will take over Kopi’s spot like we all want him to and great way to learn by showing he’s ready to do so on the #1 line.

It’s just Herby throwing his patented “misses” like his ridiculous take on Vilardi. Remember the Kings already ruined QB’s development a year ago. LOL.

Never said they ruined his development. Just that they slowed it. But as usual you will believe what the voices in your head say. Still waiting for any proof at all of me calling QB a bust, have asked you numerous times and still awaiting any kind of proof. Been saying he will be a PLD type as a center since he debuted and a higher end winger having seen him play the position, but that has never stopped you from making things up because that is what you do.

You aren’t even capable of having any kind of discussion, you just fly in and take (mostly made up) shots at people and call people fans of other teams. You are absolutely pathetic, the worst poster I’ve ever come across on any board I post at (and that’s a hell of accomplishment). But congrats on dwelling on my Vilardi miss, I know you’ve been waiting forever to have something actually real to talk about. I discuss hockey here, sometimes I am wrong sometimes I am right. I would dwell on your misses, but you don’t ever actually talk about hockey. You make pathetic drive by posts. But maybe we can ask the other members who’s contributions are more appreciated on this board?

I wasn’t trying to say that Byfield is a product of Kopitar. I think QB as a winger has more than held his own on that line, and been an excellent performer. I just said that him being a point-per-game winger next season still is reliant on Kopitar playing at a star level. If Kopitar were to have an overnight fall off like Getzlaf and Carter did it would greatly limit Byfield’s chances of being a ppg guy, even with more improvement from qb next season.

I think if QB is centering a line with Fiala and Vilardi next year (like he should), QB is going to get plenty of points coming his way.

Quick starting again tonight for Vegas.

That’s the worst thing about Columbus sending him to Vegas, I just cant root against this guy.

I'm honestly wondering how closely some people watch Byfield, considering some of the criticisms levied against him.

I do think he's looked better as a winger than a center. His board work has been very high-end. And despite his size, he still navigates narrowly open spaces.

At this point in the season, he should stay at wing. But I hope he gets some reps at center during preseason. Preferrably with some skilled wingers.

Pretty good.

So seeing this, it annoyed me they didn't take the analysis one step further, and only sorted by goals for.

So I took the extra step and compared them by:

Ratio of Goals for to Goals Against per 60
Lines by Net Goals.png

And Net Goals per 60
Lines by Goal Ratio.png

Edit: things look even better for the Byfield-Kopitar-Kempe line compared to others.

It was an idea. I didn't say it was a good idea.

I expect to see Byfield back at center in September 2023. Right here right now he is exactly where he belongs. The Kings are scary now where he is, and will be even better when he returns to center fully prepared and playing with scoring wingers.

I wonder if next year, you keep that line together, but give Byfield the C responsibilities.....at least to start.....see how it goes, then you can work him around to other possibilities etc

I think Adin Hill is now hurt.

Vegas had to call up Jiri Patera who was in the ECHL this year.

They're essentially down to their 4th and 5th string goaltenders.

Good idea. I thought they were going to do that from the get go when he was drafted but he was a little further out physically then I thought.

On the VGK broadcast they're talking about Sean Burke tweaking Quick's game; staying back in his net, don't overplay etc.

The obvious stuff that never got fixed here in LA under god-tier goaltending coach Bill Ranford.

Or he chose not to do it. My God most of us were saying stop overreacting to shots. Stay in the blue. We saw how he got out of position a lot. I could be wrong but if us laymen could see this Ranford did too. Sometimes it takes a slap in the face to get people to listen.

Maybe Quickie got the message after he got moved.

Now that I’ve seen Quicks actually playing much better off the Kings it really gives me the whole Jeff Carter vibe after we traded him. Got too comfortable. Felt too much security. Stopped trying too hard. No way around it. Glad we traded him.

I just question the game sense. The goal where he made the great pass to Anderson in the slot, Kempe, who is obv a wing but was in a center position on that play made a perfect slow down and patient play, waiting for QB to drive from the wing. I don’t know if the roles were reversed that the same play is made. QB is a big talent, he is big, strong, fast and has great hands, I’m just not sure the game is going to slow down enough for him to be as good at C as he been at wing.

I know there is more positional value in a C, but what’s more valuable a 2C or a 1LW. Is Fiala more impactful for the Kings than Danault?
