Hawks have about 17 in cap space. Moving Kane at 50% or 5M hit, will get them to 22 cap space & quite close to the cap.

Hawks, if you need to hit the salary floor, King's have a contract or two that might help.

Trade them someone they can trade at the next deadline and you might be onto something.

I did. And there was a goalie that could stop shots in net who has since forgotten, an older defenseman (which hurts because I’m older than him lol) in edler who has only gotten slower, another LHD (Maata) so everyone could slot in to the correct sides and he played decent hockey, and Lemieux who played more like a physical hockey player than a complete Neanderthal like he has been.

We do have more scoring, but this team is worse off on the back end and in goal than last year, and there is no toughness to back it up.

I actually watched them take a 3-2 game lead

then choke

it's not a coincidence, it's a pattern

True.

But it might be different with Doughty and Arvidsson if they stay healthy. And oh, Fiala too, he's kind of an X factor. I don't think Edmonton has close to the depth the Kings have, and their goaltending is worse than ours. Campbell's contract is making Petersen's look like a bargain. They can try to ride Skinner, but he could fall apart at any time.

Trying to figure out the mentality of some people....maybe one of y'all can help me......."fans" of the team, watching what this team did last year, doing this year, in the top 10 of the league.....yet....are slagging the team every opportunity they get,

"LA can't keep up with EDM" yet....they've beaten them twice...."doesn't matter it's not a 7 game series"

How in the world does that work.....I mean if the team doesn't go 82-0 do they suck? If they go 72-10 but lose to SJ do they suck? How does that work....

They've beaten BOS, EDM, VGS, DAL, TB, TOR, FLA, CGY, COL, PIT, BUF, but we suck because we haven't beaten CAR or NJ ? Is that how this works?

Well....let me ask you this...fans...short for fanatics......if you are questioning the team at EVERY turn, don't believe it can win, even win it's shown they can, and don't like anything they do.....what exactly are you fanatical about? Being an ass?

What's being shown is more than just...critics.....you can be critical of the LD and still see how they are winning, you can be critical of the G and still see how they are winning....

Like..what is going on, are they winning just to spite you, so you get pissed? How does that work?

I think there can be nuance here. The Kings are good and are likely a playoff contender. Are they a cup contender, not likely. You do need to play the games and anything can happen. No need to be overly critical or optimistic.
There's 100% nuance......I see it from some, most etc.....

But my response was more to the people who say, LA can't beat teams like BOS or EDM......despite them beating teams like BOS and EDM......

Define cup contender, right now, they have a legitimate shot of coming out of the West....they are top 3 in the West right now....with SHIT goaltending....we will have more an of answer on March 4th....but it's fine if you don't think this team is a cup contender, but when you close yourself off to what they have done, while shitting on them the entire time......it doesn't make any sense.

I don't know about any of you, but if I don't like something, I'm generally not a fan of it......and half the posters here are so far down the hole of dislike, they can't see the team for what it is right now....a top 10 team in the NHL despite it's flaws......and there's maybe 2 teams in the entire league, that can say they don't have flaws.....

Lombardi said something the other day about the difference between building a winner and a team that draws but exits early. Paraphrasing of course. This is a good team but the roster isn’t there yet. I think that is the concern. They still lack a killer instinct. Goal is an issue too. I enjoy them and am hopeful every game but I would be shocked if they can take 4-7 against the better teams. Not saying it couldn’t happen. Add a couple guys like a Bonino and Ferraro and I’d feel much better.

In the West there really aren't better teams....they are all flawed.....as far as the bold, that's where...the youth come in to a point, that killer instict is developed on the team level.....coaching definitely adds to it, a Sutter, Keenan, Torterrla type etc, this almost has the feel of......Terry Murray.....then Daryll Sutter coming in etc, not that I think that TM is going anywhere, and I don't know if there is a type out there with that killer instinct to replace him if he went....

With the roster, my problem is.....every loss.....it's OMG this roster stinks......ok...fine, it's a loss.....the problem is.....with every win...it's OMG we barely win despite the roster.......

Can't have it both ways....

I don't think the Kings are a cup contender, but I do believe they have a chance of getting out of the West...just because of how wide open it is.

When I analyze the reasons on why the team is not a contender, it doesn't upset me in any way because they are already ahead of schedule! This was the year they were supposed to finally get into the playoffs, certainly not contending for the West. Make the playoffs with what we have, see what happens and address the big issues in the offseason where you aren't going to get ripped off.

Things are good, too bad more 'fans' can't appreciate it.

People have been fans of the team for decades. They have invested emotional, financial, and time resources following this team and wanting it to succeed. Whether they are fair weather or hardcore fans, it's easy for anyone with half a brain to identify fans - although as I say that, I realize why some may have trouble making that distinction.

But they also have had years of disappointment, and sometimes become jaded so they don't get disappointed more. Some like to nitpick. Some are venting. I don't question the motives of fans posting here who actually want to talk hockey.

If people were fans of being an ass, you and your gatekeeping buddies would be a lot more popular. Have you considered going to a different forum for "real fans" such as yourself? Seems odd that you're wasting your time hanging out with all the phony plebs around here.

Half them don't talk hockey, it's always bitch this, bitch that, team sucks etc, without any context etc....

The funniest thing to me is, I don't have expectations of the team, do I want them to win, sure, do I expect them to win, not really, that's the reality of LA Kings Hockey since, 1967......

Again my point is, valid criticims are valid, (LD, Goaltender) but invalid criticisms are just f***ing moronic (LA can't beat top teams, EDM, BOS, TB, VGK, DAL, TOR, etc) when they have proven over and over they can and do beat those teams.

You can't reason with some folks. People have their opinions, both right and wrong in my opinion.. But it'll drive you nuts trying to figure some people out. It's like anything, some people will just see it a certain way. They believe 100% that they're right. No different than looking at the political landscape all around the world. There's no reason, sense or accountability, so no reason to get worked up over it.

I have been a Kings fan for decades. I know the diffference between a pretender and a contender when I see it.

As a real fan I am looking for the foundation of a team that has the opportunity to contend within the next 3-5 seasons. That isn't a team with this roster of players.

Other "fans" can be critical of those who have said the Fiala trade has the potential to be fool's gold, but unless Fiala is still around in three seasons (when he will be 29 years of age) and producing as he is now, what was the purpose of the deal?

We live in a world where there are multiple NHL GMs who know when they have the goods to be contenders, and when they do not. Simply getting into the playoffs (with this organization's "anything can happen" BS thinking) isn't a plan. It is a hope.

Some of us still remember what we saw leading up to three straight appearances in the Western Conference Final and two Stanley Cup victories, and what the Kings are doing right now, isn't it.

Saying the Kings aren't a contender isn't the issue.....again.....that's a valid opinion as weird as that sounds, it's the pissing and moaning that this team can't beat top teams, when...they HAVE beaten top teams all year long...with Shit goaltending and other roster issues that you feel doesn't make them a contender....

It just doesn't make any sense to me.....do I think this team is a contender....depends on how you define it, I think this team has as good as a chance to get out of the West as ANY team in the West.....I also feel this team gets killed by whomever survives the East......so is a contender one who plays for the cup? Or one who only plays for the cup if they have a perceived chance?

Not a prospect or even NHL specific, but pretty entertaining

I once witnessed a 13+9 performance at semi pro level… not a good standard but at any level impressive. Darin Fridgen (formerly of Ferris State) had 125+82 in 21 games. The crazy early days of the UK modern era. At any level the guy could shoot and hit.

The frustration comes not from what the team is doing, but from the perception that with some better choices it could be significantly better. Even without trades there’s a view that the team would be better with Björnfot and Spence (playing regularly not in spot duty) and that’s not a crazy notion even if you don’t agree. Obviously there is frustration that trades aren’t made to fill the roster holes and the perception that it’s easy to do (which it is not). We can argue about those perceptions but some of them at least have ‘some’ credence especially when the Goal and LD issues were apparent long before training camp opened.
