No I dont think anyone thinks they would be better right now or even in the next 2 years. Especially considering Faber would be a third pair dman here. But when Kopitar and Doughty are gone in what 3 years the right side would be stacked with Faber Clarke and Spence. If they lock up Englund long term the left is probably Anderson, Dvorak, Englund. Very solid defense.
The Fiala move was to win now and they hope to find success while hes in his prime.
We still have 3 more drafts and some interesting prospects already in our stable. You never know what gem we may find. Spence and Clarke will still be young and improved so basically if Doughty doesn’t extend we will be looking for a number 4 or 6 Dman.

Hi guys it's me; everyone's favorite poster.

I'm just here to tell ya'll that Sean Durzi has 5 goals and 15 points in 26 games while leading the entire time with a +10 and playing over 22 minutes a night.

That is all.
The only place we really miss him is on PP 2. He can score and run the pp much better than Spence. Spence only has 4 pp points and ZERO goals playing the entire year there. You need more from a 2nd unit QB.

Is it time for Clarke? Spence has played well, but if Clarke will help us win more games... he's 8th in scoring in the AHL with 27 points in 27 games, and is the only defenseman in the top 35 in AHL scoring.

You can't be serious.

The ONLY reason the second unit looks even halfway decent is Spence's rapid fire puck movement and uncanny ability to read plays from the point. He is an IDEAL player for any team's secondary unit.

Yup, which is why he should be on the 2nd pairing right now and Roy should be dealt for a late 1st NOW and the cap space to add a significant piece at the deadline.

When was the last time a team with the 2nd best record in the league traded away one of their best players for a draft pick?

One of their best players is a tad disingenuous.

If Roy was under contract past this year and not a goner for certain this summer, of course you don't do it. If Clarke wasn't ready and inevitably here next year, you don't do it. If Doughty wasn't ready for a slightly reduced role, you don't do it.

The left side of the defense is perfectly set up to accomodate Doughty, Clarke and Spence. The team will be strapped for cap space when Arvidsson returns. The power play needs a boost. There are limited picks in the upcoming draft and a rental top four right shot defender always fetches a good price from a contender.

On the other side, Roy has a moderate amount of physicality - most importantly the ability to absorb contact. That should help in a playoff run yet he was fairly insignificant in the last two series. It could be a blow to the penalty kill, but the emergence of Englund mitigates it a bit.

It really boils down to weighing the Kings chances for this one season with Roy's stability on one side, and Clarke's dynamism and cap space to address other pressing issues at the deadline on the other.

All it takes is a guy to play one season on an east coast team to punch their HOF ticket

Imagine if Quick were on an O6 franchise, no one would even have blinked at Carey price except to call him Diet Quick

Sad for the Kopitar vs. Bergeron or Doughty vs. f***in anyone history but it is what it is at this point

yet 2 pp points and ZERO goals. If he's so good, why the low production? And how about that Fiala esq turnover running pp 2 the other night? He got a single shot on net last night, but had about 8 shots blocked and one shot that missed so bad he nearly hit Moore in the head off to the side. You need something more than pretty skating to run a pp. He also has to score or at least set guys up. 2 points says he's not doing it. His last pp point was Nov 24th.

This is just pure nonsense.

NOBODY on that 2nd unit has more than 5 PP points this year. Dubois has just 1 - Danault and Kaliyev have just 4. Moore has 5.

Spence's rapid decision making and puck movement are quite literally the ONLY reason that awful unit looks even somewhat dangerous.

This anti-Spence stuff you have been posting is just foolish.
