Watched a lot of that game. Ovi looks completely shot out there. Not a threat to do anything. I know the idea was to get him looks to try and catch Wayne but I would be flat-out shocked if that happened. He's lost enough footspeed where he can't get into open positions and a lot of velocity on his shot. If you told me he scored 40 last year, I'd laugh. It may just be something he's working through but it's like a Richards level drop off right now.

Normally I'd say watch him reel off 10 goals in 10 games now, but he's just a shadow of what he was last year.

Hughes Bowl has been pretty damn entertaining. All Hughes brothers with points. Pretty crazy how good these brothers are. Devils pulling a Blue Jackets up 5-2 now tied 5-5.

Hughes Bowl 1 didn't do my blood pressure any favors. Feel bad for Vitek Vanecek, guy looks like he has zero confidence right now. Maybe lucky that he's in New Jersey and not under the microscope like Jack Campbell in Edmonton.

But a couple more performances like that and the heat will be on. Problem is finding goaltending at this juncture of the season would be like:

Kings are gonna be the 1st seed in the West only to draw Edmonton as a wild card in the first round. By that time Edmonton will have the hottest powerplay in the league and a newly acquired Saros at the deadline.
Can see it now.
If the Kings can’t beat a two player team for the third straight year they should probably be relocated to Oklahoma.

The Soil has won 5 in a row.. scoring 5, 8, 5, 3 and 6 tonite against Carolina. I wouldnt underestimate their ability to be in the mix for the division

Maybe 3rd, but even that will be tough. They would have to probably have a point% of around .680 to have a shot. For the division? They'd have to play better than the Kings have so far for the rest of the season.

They have a really weird schedule, they have like their next 5 at home then like 6 straight on the road starting just before xmas with some long breaks in there. They are playing lights out right now, so I expect them to pull into the wild card race relatively quickly here.

My fear:

Kings are gonna have a great regular season. Finish #1 in the conference and be on cruise control heading into the playoffs. We have easiest remaining schedule in the league.

Meanwhile Edmonton fights and claws and scratches to eek into the 8th seed.

Guess who we'd get to play in round one?

Don’t look now but Clarke is tied (with Tynan) for 4th in AHL scoring. Turcotte’s tied for 14th.

Nothing wrong with acknowledging that some teams just don't match up well with other teams, and I fear that might be the case with the Kings and the Oilers. If it's a first round matchup the Oilers will again ride their big 2 into the ground and make it a special teams series where their lack of depth is minimized. That will crush them in the later rounds, as it did in previous years, but that wont stop them from selling out to win in round 1.

If you feel that going through Edmonton would be a big part of giving validation to the Kings run, I'd much rather do it in the 2nd round after McDavid and LD have an entire series of playing 25 minutes a night vs Vegas or someone like that.

I still feel like LA hosting Vancouver in round 1 is very likely to happen, and that would be a much more favorable matchup for the Kings. It also just feels like EDM is going to get in as a WC, the teams between them and one of the 2 WC spots are not exactly murderers row.

The SJ/DET game was bonkers tonight. Nothing until halfway through the 2nd period then:

Detroit scores 9 minutes in.

Then Detroit scores 3 goals in 50 seconds to make it 4-0

Then 30 seconds later SJ scores 3 goals in 1:45 to make it 4-3, then scores 3 and a half minutes later to tie it. And 2 of them were shorthanded.

6 goals by both teams in 3 minutes. Just crazy shit.
