agree with you about Lizotte, but disagree on the above. Don’t recall anything negative about him in the press…the only negativity I recall was coming from the usual posters on this board, mostly predicting that Vilardi would never play a game in the NHL….another Blake bust.

Lisa Dillman was pretty up front about her thoughts on Vilardi before his breakout last season.

It’s hard for me to give a definitive answer on Vilardi at this point, and not just because he’s in COVID-19 protocol and may even be asked to play a few games in Ontario to get his conditioning back before he returns to the lineup. The problem with committing to him as the third-line center is that right now, it looks as if Rasmus Kupari is winning that job – and they are committed to giving Kupari a good look there. So far, that looks quite promising. Kupari has a higher energy level than Vilardi, something McLellan really likes. Truthfully, I’m not sure where Vilardi fits, because they also like Blake Lizotte as their fourth-line center and the energy he brings, and at some point, Byfield is coming back and isn’t far away from regular NHL duty. If it were me at the controls, I’d be exploring the trade market for Vilardi. He probably needs to play on a team that doesn’t have the sort of center-ice depth that the Kings have.

And no, I don’t see Vilardi being on next year’s roster. As you noted, Kupari and Kaliyev seem readier to contribute at the NHL level. If they continue their development, they could be in the NHL to stay.

I seem to recall more, but I don't care enough to look further than this.

Here’s one just a quick search on the go

The typical mush mouth comment then a slight walk back, same as with lizotte

Just a Total bitch

Its the truth though.

Perhaps his inability to be mature enough to play ball on a deeply ensconced team of veterans rubbed certain lifers the wrong way, but did he really say anything all that upsetting?

That's a pretty common thing for guys leaving LA to feel when asked by Canadian reporters. That Canadian inferiority complex likes to look for that shit.

Really? That's a total bitch comment? That's a routine comment that every player makes about their new and old teams.

The point is he can’t stop running his mouth, it’s not a comment in isolation. This is like his fourth time on record in how many months? Dont ask for evidence if you’ve already made up your mind about it. Sheesh.

Just verbalizing that I’m annoyed with him. I’m not imposing on anyone else’s need to be. As a fan who stuck up for the guy against several people who are in here now backing him up, it’s a kick in the nuts to see him mouthing off now. And then to go off on a former teammate on a routine play so soon on publicly is a dick move. That’s it. All I’m gonna say on it.

Six guys have been traded and only one has been yapping. Why didn’t Iafallo, Walker, Kupari, Durzi, even Petersen go public with their grievances repeatedly? Hell, a few of those guys got screwed far worse than Gabe.

f*** Vilardi.

I would be pissing on LA too if I finally had a breakout year and they shipped me off because the GM can’t manage the cap.

The deal was made because the Kings wanted Dubois.

But this is pro sports. Players are assets, to be flipped, and put here or there, different roles, whatever, however management wants. And they get paid exceedingly well to live that kind of life. That Vilardi finally had a breakout year has nothing to do with anything. Is there crying in hockey? Because there's none in baseball.

If this exact situation happened while he was on the kings we'd all likely stick up for him, take him at this word, cheer on his candor and edge, and crucify whatever opposing gnat took him out

Where's the lie? Aside from the group of Kings die-hards like he said, the team is irrelevant in the actual city of LA at large. Every player who plays for the Kings implies it, only it's usually spun in a positive way (can go out without being recognized, can be anonymous in the city, etc).

I don’t care man. For as much as I rallied for Vilardi for him to talk shit about the fans was brutal. Everything else is just icing on the shit sandwich. f*** him.

I hope he enjoys the fire he walked into with the Canadian media. When he goes 14 games without a point, it will get noticed by them for sure. Not sure why he keeps bring up his play in LA and the org in general. Let it go and move on. BTW, it was 72 in the South Bay today, 32 in WPG.

I rooted for Vilardi because of his battle with his back and making in into the league finally and scoring 20 goals. I was a fan because he was a king. Now that he's gone and no longer a King F*** him. He can say whatever he wants we all know LA life over Losabeg. ;)

This coming from the guy who spent years crying into his Wheaties over the idea of trading Kopitar.

RJ, come on. This is nothing.

All his comments show to me is that Vilardi really wanted to stay a King. He seemed pretty passionate about playing in LA and persevered through a lot of crap to get to where he is and was becoming a big piece to our success.

Wish him all the best here in Winnipeg but still hope someway somehow he comes back.

Gabe was becoming one of my favorite players but I do honestly think PLD is the better player. The numbers aren't there but position wise and what he can do on the ice and provide in the lineup I think make him more valuable. He should provide a more meaningful role come playoffs too.

I wish Gabe the best and hope he succeeds in Winnipeg.

If he says sometHing like “ LA was great first they picked me knowing I had some medical issues , then they supported me for the few years while i got thru them to live my dream and now I get to play in a great city like Winnipeg….no one gets offended imo he just worded wrong and probably out of anger a trade like this is life changing especially to a young person

Never said I'd be reasonable about it

I'm reserving the right to be a petty little bitch over a former player since basically everything surrounding his trade pisses me off.

Definitely didn't expect to see so much resistance FOR Vilardi, that's a nice if weird change from how much people tee'd off on him over the years

I hope he has a long and successful career, I just also hope the Jets always lose and that he stubs his toe on the bed every morning before burning his toast.
