If this exact situation happened while he was on the kings we'd all likely stick up for him, take him at this word, cheer on his candor and edge, and crucify whatever opposing gnat took him out

Sports doesn't work without tribalism.

This coming from the guy who spent years crying into his Wheaties over the idea of trading Kopitar.

No, all I've ever said is that it wasn't realistically going to happen, for a variety of factors, at any point where people said it should.

“Players are assets and should be treated as such. But not that player.”

Okay, champ.

Dougie Hamiton out possibly 4-6 months, 2022 1st rounder Simon Nemec called up. Devils probably wanted to avoid using two rookie D but looks like they'll have to do it out of necessity. Management probably wanted Nemec's ELC to slide ideally, but he'll probably crack 10 GP now.

I have Hamilton in my keeper league and someone grabbed Nemec before I even saw he was injured. Very salty about it.

Not what I said, not what I've ever said, I can guarantee you I've never said they shouldn't trade Kopitar, but rather that they wouldn't trade him at the x, y, or z times that we've all talked about a million times, but you do you boss.

Do you realize I made the exact same argument to you and you blew me off and never responded a few months ago? Shameless.

J Quick 7-0-1 on the season
Vezina caliber goaltending
Except he rarely plays winning teams, and he's been under .900 for over half of his starts, despite playing against weak opponents. After last night's shelling against SJ his numbers are drifting down towards his average. He's now 13th in Sv% and 7th in GAA despite having 3 shutouts in 9 games.

His numbers are propped up by being on a good team and his two early shutouts against Edmonton and Nashville when they were playing terribly.

He's playing better than he did here, but if he was playing against a starter's workload he'd be below .900. I'm fine with how NY is deploying him, hopefully he can continue to rack up the wins.

"I'm not going to give you names, the people that have talked to me, talked to the league, said it was a nothing play," Tortorella said. "The point there is, and I'm glad the kid isn't hurt — a really good player, a young man in this league — but that's a problem in our league right now. Our players in this league do not put enough emphasis on making sure you're protecting yourself from hits like that, making sure you absorb hits like that.

"Because we've kind of tried to turn this league into a no-hit league. And now people aren't ready to be hit. I think it's a lost art in how you take hits. I do think, looking at the clip, I think [Hughes] thinks it's icing. A mistake was made. We've got good refs, we've got good linesmen, but a mistake was made last night. What bothers me is we had to suffer for that mistake — losing a player."
"I believe the league [is saying] it's a no-go, there is nothing wrong with the play," Tortorella said. "It shouldn't have even been a penalty. It screams to the athletes in our game: be prepared to be hit. Because big hits are allowed. Nowadays, I'm not so sure because everybody puts their arms up when there's a big hit. It makes me sick what goes on in the league here on big hits. That's part of the game.

"It's a fast game, which is fantastic. The skill in the game is fantastic. I think some of the rule changes we've made have improved the game. But I just don't think we should take the foundation of the National Hockey League out."

I don't think Torts is wrong by any means, but I don't think this play was black and white. Hughes clearly hasn't braced for the hit because he thought it was icing. The new icing rules put in place by the league was clearly to decrease the hard boarding hits that can turn into injuries where the D cannot brace for impact.

With that said, is Torts right in that it was a mistake by the refs not to calling it icing, and Philly shouldn't have been penalized for their mistake...? Not so black and white.

On an unrelated note, Hathaway has a very punch-able face like Bieksa.

Hockey's a contact sport. Physicality is in the nature of the game. There is a thing called assumed risk and anybody playing hockey that thinks they are not going to be hit are better off playing some other game. That fact is not a licence to head shot or attempt to injure but the push to slowly, incrementally remove physicality from the nhl will eventually turn hockey into soccer on ice with the predictable results.

So am I. Like I said I hope the NYR keep doing what they are doing with him, because it's really padding his stats and making for a good story. It sucked to see him moved in a trade, but it's been the best thing for him as I don't think he would have ever truly accepted being a backup here in LA.

torts is right to rant about guys not protecting themselves but the linesman blew the f*** out of that call. can't wave off icing just to scramble and whistle play down for icing that late. it's a very predatory, legal hit but that's what hathaway does and well, there was no f***in whistle.

even if you blow it dead incorrectly, we've seen plenty of times they'll just drop it at center ice and move on. painless.

I wonder if the Kings will see Quick this weekend.

like clockwork, Caps getting lit up and Lindgren with a zero save percentage

I f***ing hate this world
If it's any consolation, there was once a time Cal Petersen shut out a team.

And that was March 17, 2022 versus San Jose.

So, just remember it could be worse. We could be Sharks fans that have to live with that knowledge for the rest of our lives.
