They’ll have to decide if he intended to kick out at him. I’m not sure how they prove that but he has form for being reckless with his feet/skates apparently. They may come into it. There is probably better footage available than the grainy video that is out there , including the official game video (i don’t know that to be 100% true but most games are formally taped over here with better quality than the footage i saw of it).
Man, I saw the video, I've changed my mind, guy was being picked but how in the f*** does he get that skate up that goddamn high, with no intent and his other leg still on the ice.....I thought this was in a scrum and Johnson might have been bending over etc...but the clip that I saw, completely changed my mind

Yah, I'm convinced the intent to kick was there -- I don't believe he meant to kill the guy though!

Well yeah.

Shoot somebody in the leg and it isn't attempted murder.
So if Kaliyev didn't hurt the player, and Horvat happened to be injured, you'd say that Draisaitl's action is "that much worse"? Even though we're not applying any different variables to the act, only difference is the outcome.

That really depends. If you shoot at someone running away from you or driving by in a car and hit them in the leg, you absolutely would be tried for attempted murder if the evidence warranted. Other situations you might get a lesser charge. It's 100% on your intent. If you are aiming at someone's head and miss them, it's also attempted murder even though there was no injury.

I don't think Draisaitl is attempting to injure there, its just a pissy little bitch acting up. Its an unusual play to say the least, but penalizing someone for what could have happened jad things gone differently is not on par with something that DID injure someone.

Kaliyev got smoked, got up, skated straight at the next Duck he saw, the Duck attempted to get out of his way and Kaliyev thrust his knee out to make contact, injuring him in the process. The injury did and should lead to a more severe penalty.

They aren't comparable events.
So you much like Player Safety are fine with a league of whiny little brats like Malkon, Drai, etc swinging sticks at each other as long as no one gets hurt?

Tell me if Draisatl wasn't trying to injure Horvat what was his intention on that play?

That's not how you cultivate a safer league, which is the intended purpose of Player Safety.
It continues to be a mixed message of sometimes two players get tangled up and one blows out a knee, suspended multiple games. A blatant intent to injure like this gets nothing.

Drai's play has more in common with Duncan Keith intentionally knocking out Jeff Carter's teeth than it does with what Kaliev did. Both were suspended and Drai should be as well.

Why in the world wouldn't a worse outcome result in a worse penalty?

Bit of a stretch there, ya think? I didn't say I was "fine" with anything.

I said that no, it isn't as serious an infraction as what Kaliyev did - because it isn't comparable.

Kaliyev injured a player. Draisaitl didn't injure anybody, except maybe adding another Firestone on the tire fire of his reputation.

@Johnny Utah why didn’t you tell us you were the GM of the Red Wings in 1983?

The original question was "was Kaliyev's knee that much worse?" To which you said absolutely. Is Kaliyev's knee only worse because of the outcome?

If I shoot someone in the face and they live, versus shoving someone who trips, hits their head and dies, is the shove only worse because of the outcome?

Ducks get outplayed but win again. They have six 3rd period comebacks so far this season.

Saros continues to have a rough season.

Gudas was a sneaky good signing. What he brings is worth a lot more than 4M.

Charlie just had a 35 save shutout against Vegas. Caps beat Knights in regulation 3-0.

Vegas has 1 win in their last 4, the only team they could beat is the lowly Sharks. Sure they put up 5 against SJ, but they only managed 3 goals in the other 3 games.

The Ducks have the 2 craziest stat projection so far this season.

Gudas 16 goals and Vatrano 60 goals.

I'd add Zegras on pace for 7g, 7a onto that.

Ducks are also really tough.

They have Gudas, Jones, Carrick and Johnston.

Kings just have Englund - sadly.
Those who thought fighting was on it's way out were wrong. Kings gotta get with the times. Unfortunately, Helenius isn't ready.
