I think a lot of people are still sleeping on Vancouver. They are sneaky good this year. I didn't even realize they added Soucy this year and Hronek last year.

Pettersson, Miller, Boeser, Kuzmenko and Mikheyev are legit. Not to mention they have Hughes, Hronek, Myers, Soucy, and Cole on D.

They also added Suter who's been good for them.

I think we can beat vancouver. We can take advantage of cole and myers and by history thier forwards dont like to backcheck.
Overwhelm demko with shots and we'll be good.

What would it take to get Askarov from Nashville?

Barry Trotz was trying to make a big splash back in June since it was his first draft as GM plus it was being hosted in Nashville. Word was that he was trying to package Askarov+picks to get into the top 4 to land one of the centers.

Might be an expensive proposition to get Askarov. Saros is UFA after next season, so it might depend on whether he gets extended. Otherwise they may need Askarov for themselves.

Raanta had some injury issues early in his career with blkhawks but since has played well in a backup role to andersen in carolina. I think overall a much lighter workload has helped the guy.

One that Kings fans should pay attention to. Starting to see a number of similarities between those Lowe run 2000s teams and Blake’s Kings teams the past 3-4 seasons.
Such as? I don't really see many parallels, maybe I'm missing something.

They by far have had the easiest schedule I ever seen to start a season. They've beaten up on some of the worst teams in the league while going 2-2 vs the better teams in the first two months. The Avs and Knights are there only tough games remaining this month. They could easily bank another 12 points against the other crap teams in our division. Our first meeting is Feb 29th.

The kick em while ther'e down report:
Islanders score in the first 40 seconds of thier game in edmonton.
My god, the oiler defensemen are horrible.

Poor salary cap management? (How many times has Edmonton had to trade players away to field a full roster, what did the Kings have to deal with this summer?)

Mortgaging future assets to fill holes that just open up other holes (see Edmonton trades Greene and Stoll for Visnovsky, and then they were terrible at face offseason and had no toughness on their blueline, the Kings made a trade for depth at center and prevented themselves from signing any sort of goalie)

Struggles integrating drafted players into the roster.

Struggles with draft picks living up to potential throughout the org.

Promoting current staff to "made up" positions, and bringing in alumni players and friends.

No accountability for failure when it comes to staff. (Sturm, Randford, Todd)

No real plan in terms of roster construction, other than "just accumulate talent and we'll win"

Reliance on an aging core that hasn't proven anything in years

None of these are as bad as they are with the Oilers, but the very early signs are there that the Kings may become what the Oilers are now.
