I am still amazed that the Kings felt the AHL was a better development spot than a 2nd year back in college (AT) or learning to be a pro at the NHL level (QB), just defies all logic, even almost 4 years later its maybe the worst decision I've ever seen with the handling of an NCAA prospect. Just completely ignoring the evidence that is all around them, around the entire league, because they are to egotistical and stubborn to think their way might be wrong. I get it why many here were excited, it was a chance to see Turcotte locally and in theory it was "a step closer to the NHL", but man the history of guys going from freshman to the AHL is just so bad, and this has sadly become another cautionary tale for teams that still think this is optimal (not many do). You think Power, Beniers, Hughes, Caufield, Boldy are where they are playing in the AHL instead of a 2nd year in college? zero chance.

What is really crappy is their poor evaluation and development choices have no consequences for Blake and the Beach Boys (they all get extensions and promotions), but for guys like Byfield, Bjornfot and Turcotte (and maybe Clarke is next) it ends up costing them any chance of getting anything remotely similar to what their friends and peers got on 2nd contracts. Maybe its just better for everyone involved that the Kings decided to largely gut much of their future the last couple of years by trading Faber, and 1sts in 2022 and 2023. The Kings just have shown they don't have much of a clue how to develop guys into star players. If you were a 1st round pick would you want to go to the Kings? Or an organization that may give you a chance to actually show what you can do and be compensated well for it. Look at Faber, he will sign a big contract (not this big) next summer, and will have 2 full seasons and 3 (possible) playoff appearances going into that contract. LA would have made him pay his dues and he'd be making 1/5 of what he probably will be making two seasons from now. By the end of this season its very likely Faber will be as good or better than Roy, with a cap hit of 925k this season and next. This is how most teams do it, they try and replace expendable vets with younger players on ELC's and use the saved money to address problems elsewhere (like goaltending in LA), but the Kings would never have even given him the chance to show he's better because he was coming from the Minnesota Golden Gophers instead of the Ontario Reign. The same can be said of Clarke as well (even if he's a much different style player).
Curious what you think about Fantilli I know you like him a lot but looks like he's going to make the Jackets. Should he go back for another year? I personally think he should.

I would have selfishly liked him to return to school (I don't think UM is a national title contender w/o him). But he had nothing to prove at the NCAA level, he was a man amongst boys at the college level last year, the best freshman I have ever seen. And while he could have burned a year off his ELC even if he had returned, he is still going to make at least 925k this year (with more in potential bonuses), so I don't blame him for leaving.

I think 95% of 1st round picks should return for their sophomore year (even really high end guys like the Hughes brothers, Beniers, Caufield, Knies Power). I think both Fantilli and Cooley are part of the 5% that just had nothing left to prove and should have gone pro.

Good start for the Quinn Hughes 2023-2024 Norris Trophy campaign :D

I whiffed massively on Vancouver last year, but on paper they seem like they could challenge the Kings for Pacific3 if Demko could actually stay healthy.

Possibly, I mean I get Herby's point, but it's ignorant of the fact that just because you make the team, doesn't mean you play, and just because you play, doesn't mean you have an impact,

You have your clear cut impact players Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson god rest his knee......but just because a player makes the team, like Easton did, doesn't mean he plays, which he won't.....because he already got cut....which was my point in saying, let's wait til mid-season before we say anything and that is where @tigermask48 got his panties in a bunch.

You going to tag me everytime a rookie gets sent down? Just want to know if I should ignore you now, or if you'll start treating people with respect.

I already said I was done talking to you as you continue to act immature, and show a lack of class and respect when someone disagrees with you or almost every interaction you have with someone. This post above and your comment is just another example of that.

Not at all, just reinforcing the point I made, you can do with that what you will.

Like I said it's extremely premature to declare success on rookies making the team.

Now? How the hell have you lasted this long?

I didn't post much between 2016 and 2021 due to life getting in the way (traveling for work, getting engaged, planning a wedding, canceling that due to Covid and then planning a much smaller wedding) so I missed a large chunk of time.
Then was posting on reddit since a good friend from high school was posting there. He left reddit when the recent changes happened.

So TLDR I haven't been around much most of the time they've been a member.

EDM got smoked 8-1 with Campbell in net. I don't feel so bad now.

Like I said in another thread being compared to Edmonton isn’t the flex people think it is

They’re arguably worse mismanaged than the Kings just had the good fortune to draft McDavid and draisaitl instead of byfield and Turcotte.

Overrated Brock Faber with his first NHL goal.

Edit: guess I'll also add that Fagemo is a healthy scratch again. Can you imagine if the Kings had cap space to scratch a player instead of losing a second-round pick for nothing?

Imagine you were good enough, especially this camp, that the team was forced into not having to waive you?

Yes. But that doesn’t mean Spence isn’t good himself. But Faber is at Clarke’s level as a player.
I love Clarke and I ageee with this

You can’t teach the kind of processing Faber has

Dude is gonna be Tanev at the absolute least, Sanderson’s projection at the most (McDonagh? Slavin?)

I mean ignoring team situations that’s the kind of value trade all teams hope for, getting a prime top tier forward for a near future top pairing dman. Win win in that regard. Though obviously team situations and “why” are a different discussion heh

I’ve said many times I was on the ‘Faber is a steal’ band wagon from early on, however I was ok with the trade. I think you mentioned something about not liking it :naughty:?

My issue was always with what they then did with the depth and wasting it by playing Walker and Durzi. They are still wasting those two. Given the wasted year they moved the wrong guy and could have had Doughty, Faber and Spence or Clarke heading into next season. A potential cup winning right side. Instead at least one of Clarke or Spence will be undercooked heading into 24/5 and if not traded the other will be untested in a top 4 role.

Different contexts more than likely, you have one play where a player was clearly pissed and it was retaliation, and you have one, where the guy was just a dumbass.....context is key
Perceived context though. It’s such a subjective viewpoint but I think you’re correct in their thinking. They should (I’ve always held this view) make these things black&white and injury shouldn’t be a factor either.
