Papa Lou setting down rules...suits and ties , haircuts, no facial hair...

"Lou just wants us to be pros. Let's look like pros," goaltender Jonathan Bernier, one of the players in the meeting with Lamoriello, said in French on Thursday. "When you're on the road, always wear a suit. Your haircut, your facial hair, all that stuff."

By Thursday, the word had spread to most of the players.

New Leaf P.A. Parenteau says he had his hair cut shorter just to make sure he passed the Lou test.

Kane at the hawks presser, read a prepared statement, fielded questions but didn't reply.

Kane was asked if he felt he embarrassed the organization.

“I appreciate the question,†Kane said, before dodging it.

Kane was asked if he ever considered staying home, and not being a distraction at camp.

“Again, I appreciate the question,†Kane said, before dodging it.

And on and on it went.

Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun Times apparently reached his breaking point, asking Kane if, regardless of the outcome of the investigation, he "would quit drinking.â€

“Mark, I appreciate the question,†Kane said, before dodging it.

He should have done the right thing for the NHL, the Hawks and the community by not accepting the invite to camp, due to the situation.

As one NHL player agent told Puck Daddy via text: "This was a terrible idea by himself, the team and his agent. This is doing everything they didn't want to do."

Yup.

“I am confident that when all the facts are brought to light, I will be absolved of having done nothing wrong."

Who put together that statement? "Absolved of having done nothing wrong." ? The way that reads is the same way as saying "I did everything wrong." !

Hell yeah, Lou.

Usually I think mandated 'looks' like this are dumb but they really want to set the groundwork for that organization to stop being a clown show. That's a great way to find out who is going to pass the first test--buy in and look professional, or gtfo.

And that Hawks presser, oh man. Brutal. Like, you KNOW what the media expectations will be going in--why even have it if nothing is going to be said or announced? They look inept. And now the news about the president being possibly subpoenaed...

I mean, don't get me wrong, the Kings, Hawks, and NHL all need to hire better PR people because they're not acting like a big business right now.

I've seen better performances on The Young and the Restless. The only way this could have gone any worse is if Kane ended it with, "I don't get the big deal. That hoe wanted it."

I remember when Andy Murray had a "no hats" rule around the practice facility. The players hated it.

Like I said, usually think they're silly rules, but when the organization is such a sideshow, sometimes burning it down and starting from square one is the best.

That presser...wow, where do you even begin? First, why even bring him out there where he clearly doesn't want to be, and second, what was the purpose of him fielding questions after his statement? He should have just got up and left after his statement. Instead he looked worse and worse the longer it went on. This was a world class f-uped PR disaster.
And it's going to get worse.

From SI.com

And as long as he remains under investigation, the black cloud that has been following him will envelop this team. And it’s not going away.
Sadly, the league only doubled down on Chicago’s stance. Shortly after the conference ended, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly issued the following statement to Renaud Lavoie of TVA: “We have been in close contact with the Blackhawks’ organization over the last seven days and given the circumstances as they exist now, we are supportive of the organization’s decision.”

At this point we don’t know if Kane is guilty or innocent, but after today we know this much: The Hawks and the NHL are standing squarely behind Kane.

Good read here: http://news.nationalpost.com/sports...-bad-message-by-bringing-patrick-kane-to-camp

"The NHL appears to have decided that it, too, will let the process play out before taking meaningful action, which is exactly what it did not do last season when then-L.A. Kings defenceman Slava Voynov was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his wife.
Commissioner Gary Bettman, having witnessed Roger Goodell spectacularly botch NFL player-discipline matters weeks earlier, suspended Voynov right away, using the clause in the collective bargaining agreement that allows him to mete out punishment if he determines that a player is guilty of conduct that “is detrimental to or against the welfare of the League or the game of hockey.”

Is having an accused rapist in camp not detrimental to the welfare of the league?"

Amen.

This is at the Grand Jury step. It's not a totally frivolous claim. And it's training camp. So easy to suspend or just not report. But they (Hawks and NHL) are being every bit as flippant as the Kings were when they let Voynov on the ice for practice. It's arrogant and so easily avoidable.
