Considering the last minute nature of Nelson's and Huberdeau's deals, those are both more than solid. Awesome.

Isles got a deal on Nelson, at 2.5 per. He's going into his 3rd year this year and his production really jumped from Y1 to Y2, .37 ppg to .51 ppg. that's a 40% increase. If he stays healthy, and comes close to that level of acceleration , he could hit 55 to 60 points.
That's a bargain...

Breaking News: Maple Leafs acquire Michael Grabner from New York Islanders

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired forward Michael Grabner from the New York Islanders for forwards Taylor Beck and Carter Verhaeghe, defencemen Matt Finn and Tom Nilsson, and goaltender Christopher Gibson.

5 players for 1 swap. Isles's wouldn't have been resigning him anyway, nice pickup for them.
Grabner's only 27, but the injury issues...never played a complete season yet, and like the other new Leafs, he'll be playing for a contract...somewhere.

Gibson sighting! I have no clue about the other prospects involved but I can't imagine them being very good when you get FIVE of them for one guy. I'd rather get one decent prospect than a handful of Gibsons.

He looks every bit the part of a 50-60 point player too. I don't know if he'll get that sort of production playing down the lineup (his goals will still be great but assists may wobble), but that's what happens when you have a deeper time, guys take production cuts for team success. I.e. I don't know if he'll hit 50-60 but not due to lack of ability.

They're just dumping contracts so they have space for signings (I'm assuming at least one of their PTOs).

Isles got $3.5m in cap space and save $5m of actual cash. Helped restock their AHL team which is pretty poor depth/talent wise as a lot of the Isles prospects are either in juniors or on the big club. There are varied reports on all these guys but Grabs would not have been playing most nights with the current roster configuration.

Plus the Isles signed our hero - Steve "Boarding" Bernier to take Grabs spot in the press box.

Oh thank god. Now we have someone to draw a major out of in the SCF ;)

WHen I hear his name or see it in print, that's is the first thing I think of...

and speaking of the Isles, from what I've read , Okposo might not be in their future plans. He is in the last year of his current contract (2.8M_) and recovering from retina surgery.
He's looking for a LTC in the 6.6 to 7M range and the Isles (usually notoriously cheap) have
a future stud in Michael Dal Colle, who had a helluva year in Oshawa ( 42 goals and 93 points in 56 games) and led them right to the Memorial Cup CHampionship, with another year under his belt, would push Okposo out of a job by next year.

Ducks Clayton Stoner facing 5 charges for killing 'Cheeky' the grizzly bear

http://www.sportingnews.com/nhl/sto...zly-bear-killing-anaheim-ducks-minnesota-wild

Stoner is charged with two counts of making a false statement to obtain a hunting license, one count of hunting without a license, one count of hunting wildlife out of season, and one count of unlawful possession of dead wildlife

Stoner received immediate backlash when photos showed him holding the bear’s severed head and paws. He killed the 5-year-old grizzly in May 2013.

The bear was skinned and its carcass was left to rot in a field, according to The Sun report.

What happened with ROR dui did they sweep it under the rug already. Ugly off season for nhl

It been stated many times that it likely falls under the substance abuse protocol. I think because of the accident and causing damage to private property it shouldn't. And the league should at least hand down some suspension for it. But they don't want to upset advertisers and some owners by doing so.

His hearing is Oct 1 and the NHL is waiting until the hearing results to make any further determination.
ROR says the the truth about what happened will come out then
Yeah...okay...Ryan...

Eklund saying that the Leafs are shopping Bozak and the Kings are one of the teams interested.
He makes 4.2 for three more years and is turning 30 in March

There's the Kopitar replacement for when he's traded for Jones (NSH).

That's exactly it...

Key to TOR-NYI trade (6 players) was TOR losing 4 contracts, from 49 to 45, to get flexibility to sign PTOs or make waiver claim or trade.
