So the World Cup of HOckey is running 9/17 thru 10/1, with a training camp and exhibition games prior to 9/17. And for the teams that make the ECF and WCF, that will be playing thru mid June, a very short off season followed by a very long year. Not to mention the risk of injury. I wonder how much gas a player will have if he's playing until June 15 of 2016, playing from Sep 17 thru the following June, how much will he have left for a playoff run, when his team needs him the most?
Bettman can try to make his new toy as shiny as possible , but it's not the Olympics, not even close. Playing for team NA U23 or Team Europe is not the same pride as playing for your country. And keeping USA and Canada in the same conference so they can't meet for the Cup is lame. Because the NHL wants a Canada Russia showdown for 3 games.
I wonder if there will be players who turn down the invite? Or if they feel they can't.
The Young guns team is the only one that intrigues me.
I wonder if a player gets hurt and he's not playing for his NHL team how the insurance or coverage works? I know there was a $$$ premium for insurance for the Olympics. THE NHL had to cover every player with additional insurance , I wonder if this works the same way?
