Around the League--Dog Days of Summer

If you read the question again, when the reporter/interviewer says "I won't ask you to comment on anything like that" its obvious he's referring specifically to Kane. The question he poised to Toews was if incidents like this impact how you interact with the media and your teammates. That's the question he was answering and was asked to answer.

i understand that, but my point was more or less that the reporter kinda gave Toews an easy out by phrasing it that way - and Toews went the total other way and rambled about some dumb **** instead. yes, we blast these guys for generic responses and being robots to the media, but i feel like that was definitely one of those times for a canned answer given the nature of the situation being discussed.

For the news hungry individuals. Rich "Raptor Jesus" Peverly retired yesterday. Good player and fun to watch. Too bad he has heart problems.:( And Daniel "The Boomerang" Cleary is getting resigned by Red Wings again and again. This time is one year only.:wave::towel::party:

Links to 2 really good articles.

First one is about Carcillo's day with the Cup, using that to host a tribute to Steve Montador and raise money for Chapter 5, Carcillo's new quest.

The second article is about Chapter 5 and helping NHL players (and other athletes) adjust to retirement.

Dan Carcillo used his day with the Cup to celebrate the life of his good friend (And well respected around the NHL) Steve Montador. Family, friends, teammates, came and paid tribute to Montador, including Montador's 6 mos old son, born just a few days after he died.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/1...rcillo-day-stanley-cup-tribute-steve-montador

Part of the event raised money for Chapter 5, the non profit organization Carcillo founded (and has been well received by the players around the league and the NHLPA) to help players adjust to retirement. It speaks to how these guys have been living the same structured life since they were kids, coaches input, team stuff, curfews, being told what to do, where to go. Then suddenly it's done. Your old team moves on without you. Nobody calls, you're on your own. The only thing you've every done is finished.

If everything goes well, you're playing hockey until you're 35 years old.
If things keep going well, you're living another 50 years after the NHL grind ends. That's half a century, a majority of your life.

So, ask questions. Get to know people outside the sport. Take the online classes the NHLPA will be offering in its Breakaway program. Send an email to Carcillo and Chapter 5. Find another passion outside the sport. Because you just never know -- it can all end so fast.

This article is about Chapter 5 and what it will do (and much needed)

He thought there was a chance past and present NHL players would contact him, but he never expected other professional athletes to reach out to him. He's discovered there's a desire by athletes from all sports to be assisted in the next phase of their lives.

Attaguy Carbomb, way to go! Well done.

I'll never understand how posters from our board can spend so much time and energy posting there. Who gives a flying ****? Why waste time posting a thought out response to only get an emoticon answer?

I'm glad you don't go there anymore. We'd miss your avatar. :)

Should he have said anything? Certainly not. But he did and what he did say was not anything so terrible as to warrant the reactions people are giving it. It was a fine diplomatic reply to a question asked of him on the spot.

Where does it say he actually retired? The quote in the article is
Daniel Carcillo, 30, is done playing in the NHL. At least, that's what every sign suggests. He hasn't announced his retirement and won't just yet.

and

"I've already made a decision," Carcillo said. "Right now, I'm not saying I'm retiring or retired. I'm just going to Florida."

Seems likely but obviously not conclusive.

From an interview on CSN Chicago last week when he said he is ready to move on from hockey. You're right, he's not announced it yet and I corrected my post.

“Thirty is a good age for me to get out and do some other things,” Carcillo said.

An article by Elliotte Friedman with some info on why money is not the only issue to Stamos's lack of a new contract in TB

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/lightning-preparing-for-all-stamkos-possibilities/

Seems a major issue is his role with the team. he wants to play center and the Bolts want him on wing.

From what I’ve been told, the discussions were professional, but both organization and player remain searching for common ground.

The other issues as suspected, the six other bolts that will need LTC's by 2017 and it does mention a rumor that Yzerman tested the waters on a trading Stamkos at the draft , but nothing concrete.

The fact he isn't signed yet could mean a few things, including that Yzerman is still forming a path for the Bolts future and weighing his best options

Stamkos could sign tomorrow and make all of this irrelevant. But Yzerman, with both Tampa and Team Canada, shows no fear of making hard decisions if he feels it’s right for his team.

No words.

Um.......I um...... Is this a halloween special one off? Who can show up at the party looking the dumbest? Is this actually their 3rd jersey? Well, I mean it won't strike fear in the hearts of their opponents when they look up and see those jerserys flying at them in a perfect V formation so there is that.

I'm guessing that Kane will be playing for free this upcoming season.

A grand jury investigation into rape allegations against National Hockey League star Patrick Kane set to begin Tuesday afternoon has been abruptly postponed, according to three current and former law enforcement sources with knowledge of the case.

The reason for the delay appears to involve the possibility of ongoing settlement talks between attorneys for Kane and the victim, two of the sources said.

How convenient.

im going to be more than a little bit peeved if the NHL does jack all with Kane after throwing the goddamn book at Voynov right out the gates

I can they do anythign to Kane without formal charges. I believe that unfortunately domestic violence cases come with immediate charges, where as Rape charges need the victim to agree to charges. So Kane can settle without any charges ever being issued.
Complete BS IMO as I think the settlement basically admits fault
