Berube did get injured in the finals against Utica. Most likely just a precaution if Berube isn't healthy enough to start the season.

Reading comments from Flames fans about the Kings...

I find them cute. Like Toronto, Colorado before, they believe last years dipsydoddle hockey with playoffs means they have a great team. How many veterans had a carrer year last year and they still were only 2 points better then the Kings? I do think their team is closer to finding the Easter Bunny then contend for the Stanley Cup.

Yep, they'll come crashing back down to earth. The NHL isn't a counter-punchers league. You might be able to punch above your weight class for a season, but it's rare to do it season after season and be successful. Everyone except Flames fans will be saying I told you so in about 9 months.

There is discussions between Franson and the Sabres. I don't understand how his agent, a relative or someone he trusts wouldn't get him in a corner and slap him with a reality stick. He's been turning down teams and holding out for a LTC and thinks he's top 4. Well Sept is this week and his options are falling away.
He should have taken Columbus's one year deal, that a good team with a solid chance for a playoff run if they stay healthy. Pens and Bruins both offered 1 yr deals as well.
But the Sabres offered him a 2 yr deal and he's listening. He's not what he thinks he is , he should focus on finding a good fit for him, even at 1 yr and play his ass off t o get a better deal next year.

The thing about the Flames is that they were 18-2 against the Oilers, Coyotes, Sharks, and Kings last year. All credit to them for that, especially going a perfect 10-0 against Edmonton and Arizona. Playoff teams are supposed to win those games. But getting 36 of 40 possible points like that is difficult to do once, let alone twice.

Calgary has talent, there's no denying that. They've owned the Kings in LA after the 2nd period for the last couple years. Have to figure they don't go 18-2 like that again though, which means they have to pick up a few extra wins somewhere else. Not that they can't or won't, but they were under .500, with a negative goal differential, against everyone else but those 4 teams last year.

The Flames should be in the race this year at the very least, and the Kings need to figure out how to beat them. Especially at home. Can't let the Flames do all that again.

Perfectly said.

I see both Franson and Ehrhoff as being in the next wave of how vets are handled under the current CBA. The type of deals that players like them will end up signing will all be short term low value. Take your best offer up front and early or watch your value and opportunities shrink. Ehrhoff was lucky that we were there and wanted him in some ways. He too could have ended right back where he started or worse. Like Franson he could end up in TO.

They're a very good team and adding Frolik and Dougie Hamilton made them stronger. Their young players have a year of experience under their belt and like most high end players, they get better. I love Monahan, kid's onlyi turning 21 in Oct and last year his overall game to a big step forward, 31 goals and 61 pts in his 2nd year. I think Monahan is gonna have a huge year, usually 3rd year is the breakout year and he's already had 2 strong seasons. (53 goals/43 assists/96 pts in 156 games)
Their 6 D might be the best starting 6 in the league.

And it's not just the Flames the Kings have to worry on, a lot of teams improved and there are very few gimme games anymore. The key word for the Kings this year is consistent. They have to be consistent, it's gonna be a dogfight and every point will matter.

What was the Flames record vs playoff teams, other then ****** regressing Canucks? Again, dipsydoddle hockey...

The Flames are a young team, not unlike the 2010 Kings. They will be there this year again. Hudler may not score 30 goals and close to a point per game but towards the end of the year Gaudreau and Monahan were starting to have dominant games and they are 20 and 22 this season. Bennett and Emile Poirier look like they are ready to start contributing. And obviously adding Hamilton to the defense is huge.

The Kings are still a better team than the Flames but probably only for another 2 or so seasons, the Kings are slowly trending down and Calgary is quickly trending up.

Hope the Flames have a ****** season and crap out. [mod]

Tough to say where things will be in a few years from now. If the Kings still have Doughty, Quick and Kopitar along with continued development from Toffoli and Pearson, I don't believe the Flames will be better.

The defense is stacked but Calgary still needs a goalie to go anywhere and at the moment they are lacking in that area.

Depends on how well Kopitar and Quick age. But the Kings trading away all those picks and young players between 2011 and 2015 is going to be felt badly in a couple of years, it's already starting to be felt now.

Not really sure where to put this, but here it goes.

Tomorrow is the big day, from the end of the Sparks game through sometime on wednesday, they will be making and painting the ice.

I'll be going to work with my dad for about 20 hours to see the process, although he has worked their for 13 years, school conflicts haven't allowed me to go until now.

Congrats man. You should either buy or sneak in some nachos.
Nachos make everything that much better.

Awesome! Congrats on graduating high school, by the way! :sarcasm:
