Around the League--Dog Days of Summer

not that we hear it much but the sharks are ditching their goal horn song. Always thought the Sharks version of rock and roll part 2 was pretty lame.

Can a goal song wear the "C"

Penguins gave tom Sesito a PTO...guess now that Downie (Yotes) isn't there was that 'role' open. 432 Penalty minutes in 137 career games...but had a bitter parting with the Canucks, who put him on waviers but he elected not to play in the AHL and stated the Canucks didnt' give him a fair chance .

Until this signing, the Pens had made some good moves this summer, not sure why they'd offer him a PTO.

Wait, Downie is in Arizona? **** me, like that roster needed another pissbaby to run our guys.

I will tell you one thing with the addition of Downie and John Scott, the big brutal teams like the Kings and Ducks will meet their match if they attempt to push the smaller Arizona Coyotes around.

Yup...nothing like signing key contributors to give your team that extra edge in a playoff run...oh wait...

Is this guy for real? Two garbage, dirty players will make the Kings think twice? :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

They also won't let the Chapter 11 officers push them around too!

Coyotes are #allin for Matthews. Sign all the plugs!!!

Downie can at least get around the Ice ok. I have no idea how Scott keeps getting Pro Contracts. The guy barely gets around the ice at slow speed.

I can't BELIEVE that teams keep signing these horrible no skill goons like Scott, Peluso, Boll, Rinaldo, etc. My calendar says 2015, did these teams stop buying calendars after 2000?

Well, this is the guy's profile photo for the blog he wrote that laughable nonsense on...

...and here is the guy's profile photo for Twitter. So to answer your question, he's for real. But being perpetually locked in mama's basement by mama and papa, I can see why one would question his very existence.

...and he's a security guard, which confirms my suspicions about most security guards.

Is a player with an NMC exempt from being 'moved' in an expansion Draft?

I wonder if there are players who will be negotiating contacts this year (expiring in 2016) who will want that exact term in there because they don't want to be exposed as part of the expansion draft.

There is some language in the CBA that covers what each means , but the NMC language doesn't cover expansion exposure.

A No-Movement Clause prohibits a team from moving a player by trade, loan or waivers, or assigning that player to the minors without the player's consent. This keeps the player with the pro team unless permitted by the player to move the player by one of these means. A No-Movement Clause does not restrict a team from buying out or terminating a player's contract.

A No-Trade Clause is less restrictive, as it only places restrictions on movement by trade. A player with a No-Trade Clause cannot be traded by a team unless the player provides consent. A Partial or Modified No-Trade Clause is often less restrictive than a Full No-Trade Clause, and depends on the conditions outlined in the player's contracts. Often these are No-Trade Clauses with conditions that give the player the right to provide a list of teams to which the team can or cannot trade the player

It has been discussed many time and the CBA is for the most part mute on expansion. With one big exemption and that is expansion money doesn't count towards HHR.
There aren't even rules for it in the CBA. It does cover costs if you are taken in an expansion draft for moving.
It is going to come down to what the NHL and the PA agree to. I think that all players on a full NMC should be forced to be protected. Otherwise you are giving those GM's that signed them a free pass to move them in another way.

Okay, that makes sense and I didn't think ofthat. That will be a part of whatever rules they set up for the draft.

thanks

I just learnt now that Flyers hired a new head coach back in May. Apparently I wasn't really following what goes around after Kings season was over.

Dave Hakstol, formally of Univ of North Dakota, who has no professional experience. A successful college coach whose 'my way or you don't play' style using intimidation and fear is a risky move for Hexy. That might work with 18-22 yr olds who have no say in the matter but doesn't resonate the same with 22 to 39 yr old's making 7 figure salaries.
Jumping from college to the NHL with no AHL, or NHL asst' coach or any pro experience is a huge risk and there's a reason it has almost always failed.

And for a guy that's never coached outside college level, the Flyers giving him 5 yrs /10M is a ridiculous contract. He's done nothing to merit that kind of money. Sutter 2.25M ,Quenville 2.75, Julien 2.5M (but was a 2M until June) and they've coached teams to the top of the mountain.

I expect in 2 or 3 yrs, the Flyers will be looking for another coach.

Hexy also hired Kim Dillabaugh, who was with the Kings for 8 yrs and the head of their goalie development program.

That team never gets a full breather. When they had stable coaching, goaltending was the issue.

Now they found a bit of stability back in net but are having trouble adapting to a solid, reliable system.

It's not adapting to a system as much as having the right mix of players to utilize a good system. They have too much grit and not enough finish. And lack of stability, players in, players out, and leadership has been an issue.
Giroux, Voracek and Couturier in the forward group and Provorov , a high end rookie, if he makes the squad , is the elite defenseman. And unloading the deadweight and some bad contracts....
All because Snider never used a map or gameplan and until Hexy, didn't have a GM who did either.
