Ps so it sounds like the nights are ALL happening it’s just none of those nights will involve wearing jerseys in warmups. It’s still a step backwards to me, but I do like that all jerseys are being handled equally.
They didn't need to put players in the middle of it. Forcing all players to wear all jerseys means that some players will be "endorsing" causes they aren't comfortable endorsing. Now they can still do select promotions, using the players that are willing to participate. Some will choose pride, some will choose military appreciation, some will choose cancer. Looks like a win-win way to take the heat down.

They are taking away all jersey nights, but what that amounts to is saying “Because some of the owners aren’t happy with Pride Night, there’s no longer going to be Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys, or Indigenous People jerseys, or even the creative ones like Carolina’s Kids Day jersey

or Florida’s Vamos Gatos jersey

They’re cutting off their nose to spite their face.
I don’t disagree, but they treating them all equally. It’s lame for sure.

It does, it’s as smart a move as they can make in their position if they’re going to avoid it all.

But they can’t avoid it all forever. It’s everywhere in most of our lives at this point. Hockey shouldn’t be exempt.

I think Meier could have squeezed another $500K per but probably just wasn't worth it to him. Seems fair enough on both sides.

I don't think "asking people to publicly represent positions they don't agree with" is a stance that anyone should be comfortable with.

It's one thing to allow players to represent causes they believe in. It's another thing to force players to represent causes they don't believe in.

Let marketing departments take the brunt of this. That's what they're paid to do.

We’ve been forcing players to support military jersey night, and we have no idea if they support in it or not.

I’m just trying to see both sides as best I can. As @Blueline Bomber says it’s a step back on an attempt to step forward, and at the same time the issue blew up and became personal attacks on individuals for what they believe when it’s supposed to be a hockey game.

You’re right, it’s a way to take the heat off the players for the time being.

People got their fee fees hurt because they didn't want to wear a f***in rainbow and now we have to pivot to burying everything under the rug. Because the only politics allowed in sports is nationalism, like singing the anthem before games and honoring troops at timeouts.

If we make enough of a fuss do you think we could get them to stop doing the anthems pregame?!
Well if I don't have to hear Adam Lee Decker ever again, I'm all in on cancelling the national anthem(s)....:sarcasm:

I read somewhere that next year ALL the Jersey nights are gone. No more military appreciation jersey night, no more cancer jersey nights.

If this is true Im closer to understanding, if that move is as it seems intended. There are old school owners fighting the pride concept. Saying fine, we won’t support anything then is childish but they’re dealing with oversized children. If taking away all the jerseys is a stand for inclusion I can get behind it.

Unless I read that somewhere disingenuous and that’s not happening.

This is most likely also the PA taking care of those who chose to stand up for what they believe in (right or wrong, not here to debate that). Which is the point of the PA, you take care of everyone as best you can.

If only those in the media/on social media chose to celebrate the 98% who wore the jerseys instead of denigrate the 2% who didn't, i believe we'd still have all of these special-night jerseys.

Alas - it was not to be.

Also: people got their fee fees hurt because everyone else didn't want to wear a f***in rainbow. Goes both ways.

And yeah: nationalism in sports sucks, too. Get rid of the anthems except for (maybe) international games. While it's great that some people will devote their lifetimes to public service in the form of the military and as first responders, I don't need to have the "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE" meme foisted on me ad nauseam.

I think Johansen and Hayes are similar and both inconsistent. I've not really wanted either for the Canes.

It could work out quite well for the Avs or be a waste in a crucial part of their current window. RyJo will be in a better situation and better insulated. I think he'll be propped up and look a bit better than he really is at this point maybe. But even half off for no acquisition cost I would have been fairly meh on it for the Canes.
