I think Johansen and Hayes are similar and both inconsistent. I've not really wanted either for the Canes.

It could work out quite well for the Avs or be a waste in a crucial part of their current window. RyJo will be in a better situation and better insulated. I think he'll be propped up and look a bit better than he really is at this point maybe. But even half off for no acquisition cost I would have been fairly meh on it for the Canes.
You wouldn’t want RJ at 50% off for basically nothing? I know I would take that trade in a heartbeat.

I suppose the Canes wouldn't either seeing as he was sent to a division rival for free instead and we know the Canes like a good free deal. He's had like one good season in the last four. I don't think he's all that good. As I said, he probably will look better in Colorado but I'd rather look elsewhere.

Damn, a player on the Blues wouldn't waive to play for Torts on a shitty team?

He’s the exact kind of combination of skill and nastiness we need IMO. Injury’s aside, I would hope that we would have been in on that one at least.

Maybe we were and wanted to actually get paid to take the same deal or get other pieces like with Coghlan. But that all seems unlikely, cause there's no other reason they send to a division rival over us if we would take the same deal. Still glad we didn't take him. I don't agree with your assessment of him.

Agree to disagree. He had a off year and plays tough hard nosed gritty style hockey. Nashville retained and only got back a league suitcase. I’m sure they would have offered the same to us.

Not the end of the world, but he would have been a nice 2C add for $4M.

Predators Trade Ryan Johansen To Avalanche

JUNE 24, 2023 AT 11:04 AM CDT | BY BRIAN LA ROSE 18 COMMENTS

The Avalanche have made a move to add to their forward group as they’ve acquired center Ryan Johansen from the Predators in exchange for the rights to pending free agent forward Alex Galchenyuk. As part of the deal, Nashville will be retaining 50% of Johansen’s contract, one that carries an $8MM cap charge through 2024-25, meaning Colorado will add Johansen on their books at a $4MM price tag. Incoming Predators GM Barry Trotz released the following statement about Johansen’s departure:

Flyers, Blues Finalizing Kevin Hayes Trade

JUNE 24, 2023 AT 6:52 PM CDT | BY JOSH ERICKSON 10 COMMENTS

6:52 pm: TVA’s Renaud Lavoie adds Marco Scandella is not the Blues party holding up the deal – he does not have full trade protection, and the Flyers are not on his no-trade list.
6:19 pm: Multiple reports suggest a Blues player has not waived a no-trade or no-move clause, holding up the trade going through. Rutherford reports this player is NOT Colton Parayko or Nick Leddy. The Athletic’s Charlie O’Connor reports that Flyers defender Travis Sanheim could be heading to St. Louis along with Hayes, but the moving parts in the deal are far from finalized.
4:10 pm: The Philadelphia Flyers and St. Louis Blues are finalizing a trade revolving around center Kevin Hayes, according to reports from The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford and The Fourth Period’s Anthony DiMarco.
Both DiMarco’s and Rutherford’s reports indicate this is set to be quite a complex trade with multiple moving parts. The Flyers were reportedly looking to add a third first-round selection in this year’s draft, while the Blues were looking to trade one of their two first-round picks later in the draft (25th or 29th overall)

I don’t like these moves for philly.

I can understand wanting to move Sanheim before his protection kicks in a he likely loses all of his value with his play on a rebuilding squad.

But tying up 2 retains for 3 years and then retaining on TDA too. It hamstrings their abilities later. Honestly they should have bought out TDA. A retained Konecny would have brought back a monster return. You don’t want to limit your returns on a rebuild trying to get rid of bad deals.
