I've heard many whispers in the past that Brindy being held out of the HoF is more about a personal vendetta rather than anything to do with his on ice play. I always thought it was someone with the Flyers, but really... You very well could be right about this. Everyone associated with Francis seems to hold some kind of vendetta against the team, from journalists to guys like Eddie O on broadcasts, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's a major reason why Brindy is frozen out right now.
Am I missing something here? I thought Rod and Ron Francis were friends? Rod has always had nothing but good things to say about Francis in his interviews.

So Rod got snubbed again? Shocker, but again, win Cup as coach, they can't deny you then.

I don't think they despise each other but I think their friendship ended. Someone mentioned it has to do with Bill Peters kicking Michal Jordan in 2016 and Francis not doing anything about it, Rod didn't like that.

Don’t stop them, they’re on a roll.

Rod himself said Francis handled the Peters situation perfectly, I heard it on XM straight from the horses mouth, but again….

Ya that is what I heard as well. Bill Peters was and still is a POS and Francis handled it well like Rod said.

Only time I have ever heard Rod saying anything remotely negative about Francis is during his Spittin Chiclets interview where he said to Francis that he wanted the Head Coach job. Would Ron have hired him, who knows? He got let go before we will ever know.

It has been said before, but Rod is truly a borderline candidate. Have worse players got in before him? Yes. But I don't think there's a nefarious plan to keep Rod out of the HoF. He's just kind of mid as kids these days would say, and he played for and got his major achievements for a small market team no one cares for. It is what it is.

My comment didn’t mean to imply they aren’t friendly anymore. They built houses next door to each other if I recall correctly. They were at least at one time very good friends. They may still be, obviously they aren’t neighbors anymore.

That’s what makes it curious that he isn’t in, when other guys who have made it based on their pals have. Is it that Francis has too much integrity to stump for his friend and teammate over someone else he finds deserving? Does Mike Gartner (head of the comitee )hate him for some reason (the Flyers and Caps had some absolute melees in the late 80s/early 90s.

Or is he just that borderline guy we’re going to talk about forever, or until he gets in as a builder after 15 straight Metro division titles.

I think it’s much more likely that Rod is borderline and that Francis is just one vote in a big room. Maybe someone in there is a long standing enemy, who knows. I don’t like the assumption because you feel someone has gotten in because of buddies in the past that Rod should be in for the same unproven reason. Also people generally assuming RF carries some significant sway in the room and he uses it to keep Rod down for some unknown reason when they’ve always been seemingly close is ludicrous. Francis has more than moved on successfully from us. There’s little reason for him to carry any grudge against the team. He probably doesn’t send Dundon Xmas cards but aside from that the level of stretch you have to make it so that RF is now a completely different human being who is angry, petty and vindictive against not only the organization but Rod specifically and is choosing to keep him from the HOF due to this is a pretty new low for this board.

My comment wasn’t actually specifically at you but at a couple of posts.

This is likely it. Other sports do this kind of thing too: you played for an NFL team that was often very good for most of your career, but didn't win a Super Bowl? Sorry, Ken Anderson.

I think another part of it is no one knowing who has any kind of influence. I figure Francis does because he has long standing relationships with McKenzie, Sakic, and Cammi Granato. Those are just the ones I’m sure of.

But his personality has never been a dominant one so he may be just quietly vote for Rod every year (or not). We’ll probably never know. It is what is.

And that’s where I’m at with it even if I believed he was angry and vindictive, which I don’t because it’s completely against his character. Like you say he’s never seemed like a dominant personality. It’s hard to imagine him working the scene for his evil plot, even if he’s a respected guy in the room.

FFS. I guess the NHL doesn't like the controversies over warmup jerseys in the news, but it's pretty sad to see them just surrendering to the bigots.
Yes. But what happens when the NRA or whatnot want in. This way they don't piss off any subset of fans/nonfans and don't have to deal with controversies. Understandable.

The anti-LGBT bigots who don't think gay people should be accepted in society. You know, the people who oppose pride jerseys?
You're an "admin" of this site. And this take is absolutely f***ing ridiculous. But hey, flex your "admin" muscles and shove your tolerant stance down everyone's throat, and most likely silence anyone who disagrees with it.

I'm only a lowly mod, not an admin, and I'm very, very reticent about deleting posts, even those I find distasteful or personal attacks (like this) that would very often catch you a warning (consider this a verbal one) or a ban. In the previous discussions I was happy to let many things go that I did consider pretty borderline in service of not silencing discussion of a sensitive issue. Other mods were frequently far stricter, and they may still pop into this thread. But there is a limit. Be mindful of it.

Admin muscles?

Admin muscles?

As a former mod myself, one of the reasons I stepped down was because I didn't want to have to deal with bullshit takes like this.

Bring a mod is an absolutely thankless job, and folks do it generally because they are asked to do so. It's no kind of fun power trip to have to clean up after trolling and nonsense, but someone has to agree to do it when $IDIOTFAN from some other board shows up. It's not a job you volunteer for; it's a job the other mods sucker you into.

I have never once seen any of these mods censor anybody for an opinion -- and as far as politics, this group of mods is particularly forgiving. You are basing that accusation on zero evidence.

It's a shame that a mod having an opinion is so traumatic to you. You should probably get over it if you want to keep decent mods.

During my tenure as mod I mostly just spent time keeping us from screaming at each other and occasionally kicking off anyone from other boards that came around when I had time to be around, I didn’t have any of this political crap to deal with.

I’d lose the title in a day or two now.

There really is no other way than tolerance. We all belong, whether anyone likes it or not. I’d be enforcing that all day long.
