Zadina on waivers. High pick big time bust.
I member the controversy on him dropping in that draft. The dude just has no motor. At 1.8m he's a tough sell as a reclamation to me here... but a team like Arizona, that makes a ton of sense to me.

His advanced metrics aren’t bad from what I recall, just doesn’t seem to consistently be able to create offense. I do wonder if he ends up working out on a team where they’ve got a good playmaker but an open spot for a winger.

His macro paint a picture of a guy who drives possession and creates chances. His micro suggests his individual impact defensively is low, but lots of chances happen in dangerous areas offensively when he's on the ice... with pretty much zero finishing ability.

My eye test... a skilled player who does a lot of little things right, but his skill isn't enough to really be an impact player at this level. His shot is poor (and he hasn't seen a 45' shot he doesn't love... which promptly misses the net or straight into a goalie's chest), he's not willing to take a beating in the middle of the ice, and he's not a high end thinker. If his contract was 1.25m or only for this season, I'd be all aboard taking a shot. At 1.8m there is enough possibility to hurt that I'd pause (if Colton's cap hit is low enough still maybe worth a shot).

I don't think he gets to the Avs. Arizona, Seattle, Minny all look like teams that could grab him.

Well this didn't age well

IIRC somebody tracked this and said he's only scored a combined 1 goal against them.

Somebody should tell John Gibson that if he didn't suck for several years now he'd have been traded already.

Also didn't he block a trade to Ottawa last year? Fool.
Not that he is some top 5 goalie but I think it has been extremely evident when watching Gibson play over the last few years that he doesn't give a f*** on the Ducks. He knows they suck and he isn't putting anywhere close to a full effort.

That said, if you want out so bad don't block trades.

That 2018 first round is pretty damn awful
Yeah, I was just looking back at that today. For all the flak the Kaut pick gets, really the only clear hit the rest of the first round was K'Andre Miller. Lundestrom is at least an NHL bottom sixer but I wouldn't call that a home run pick, and some of the guys picked after him still have potential, but that first round was pretty brutal in the second half.

And that was one of the most hated picks at the top. To the point they found Pierre’s burner
Sens' board didn't want Brady, the Habs board was super afraid that Bergevin would pick him and were ready to riot if he did and if you guys remember, Avs owned Ottawa's 1st pick that year (from the Duchene trade) but Dorion could either give us this one or the next one unprotected.

I remember saying here that I wanted this pick and to pick Tkachuk, to which @Pierce Hawthorne in all his glory replied that he'd "literally barf" if the Avs were to pick Brady Tkachuk.

So yea, Brady was a pretty unpopular pick on HF at the time.

Insanity but let's not forget that he was the one who started to nickel-and-dime the Leafs...he opened the door for Matthews and Marner.
I actually disagree here. He's the one the Leafs got into war with, and in the end, he got what he wanted but it was also pretty much market price. And then he saw the Leafs basically give Matthews everything he wanted, and although it took almost into the season, Marner got a huge bag as well compared to his comparable (as in Rantanen).

It's not that he probably thinks he's worth 10mil in the open market (although I think there are some teams that would give him that), it's that he doesn't want to be the guy who settles for market value and then sees Matthews get the bag once again.

People said Svechnikov would be the best goal scorer since Ovechkin.

The guy is a 30-30 player, 30-40 in a good year. Nothing more.
He’s really nothing special given that he was a second overall and people talked about him going first.

It’s kind of odd though since it implies the Cup went back to the HHOF at some point instead of staying with the Knights

Yeah which means the league had to coordinate this for them. Just so happened to be Vegas getting preferential treatment again. They can deny it all they want, it's pretty obvious IMO.

Surprised they don't do it every year. Don't they have multiple cups? One that stays in HHOF, one that travels? It seems it would be easy to fix the one in the Hall, fly it out and replace the one the guys are celebrating with and bring that one back to the Hall.

It is obvious that as soon as the Avs got eliminated the NHL started engraving Vegas' names on the cup. That's why it was ready for them to take it home. :sarcasm:

Michael Stone retires and immediately joins the Flames FO in a player development role.

He is only 33 years old but has only played 134 of the last 372 possible professional games in the NHL/AHL since 2018-2019.

He always looked so much better on the ice than what his stats/underlying numbers would indicate. Weird player.
