We all knew on this board that Habs were going to draft David, but I still see it as a reach and when you factor that in with the fans and them passing over Michkov, who received a ton of hype in the last week or two entering the draft, this makes sort of sense. I mean, still big-time awful stuff and I wouldn't be surprised if some death threats were thrown in there, but I think the Hab fans had built up rage from the Kotkaniemi selection as well, which did not sit too well with the fanbase. Very weird to go after the lad than the organisation, but I gotta admit that I am not surprised by this.

Context is important though:

Habs had 4 top 5 picks in the last 18 years: Galchenyuk (3), Kotkaniemi (3), Slafkovski (1) and Reinbacher (5). The first two were crap/busts, Slaf they don't know yet but they kinda know he's no superstar in the making and then there's this pick...a defenseman who don't project to be a Norris winner...

and this time, a player like Michkov was available.

From their POV it's infuriating. They had 2 terrible years and end up with Slaf and Reinbacher...and that's after the Galchenyuk and Kotka picks.

That franchise just can't get elite talent.

This is very embarrassing from Montreal fans. Direct your anger towards Hughes if you are not happy with the pick. Not Reinbacher's fault he was selected. I hope he doesn't play for them and he becomes a very good #1D which he has a very good chance of becoming.

This is just sad. I can understand being disappointed in your team not drafting the guy you want, but why send hate mail to a kid that had absolutely nothing to do with the decision?

The NHL is a pretty cozy league for a professional athlete if you think about it. Most clubs in the US, you can live pretty peacefully not under the spotlight. Pretty enticing.

Canadian fans aren't really anything that special when it comes to the world of sports. Pretty tame actually, if you think what soccer players have to go through playing for some of the big clubs in Europe (or even smaller clubs with rabid fanbases). It's just that there's the option for relative quietness in US hockey markets.
