Is that Colin Wilson next to Nate and Tyson?
Yea that looks like him! I was about to ask the same question before reading yours!

I remember how Wilson was liked in the room...he probably has many NHL friends still.

Also Mike Smith is looking better than he ever looked when he was playing.

I don't agree that the Hawks logo is racist but the whole thing is quite funny...

I didn't know the Blackhawks' logo was considered racist. I thought it was a tribute to the leader of a group of native American tribes? Are the modern day tribe members not fond of the logo?

I member the controversy on him dropping in that draft. The dude just has no motor. At 1.8m he's a tough sell as a reclamation to me here... but a team like Arizona, that makes a ton of sense to me.

What do you think of me comparing him to Kaut, obviously not a one to one comp, but big dudes with skill, but not enough at their levels with those motors lol. Kinda where I'm going with that.

I'd take Z on a tryout contract, but I'm not betting on him the way I'm betting on Drouin. Drouin has flashed elite skill, Z never really has.. It's been like hoping for a heart beat watching a flat line on the screen even though you have a machine that keeps pumping that chest.

It's not happening IMO, and it's the 9th minute.

BTW, fun fact Seattle actually can make people open their eyes and wake up they're that good at CPR. Sometimes all the way to the hospital. Bleeding edge on that shit.

If you have heart issues, move to that city, and next door to the fire department. You'll just wake up with a pacemaker one day.

People said Svechnikov would be the best goal scorer since Ovechkin.

The guy is a 30-30 player, 30-40 in a good year. Nothing more.
You watch him and it's so easy to get captivated by his size and skating and skill level... but the more you watch him the more you realize his skill level isn't THAT high level and he camplay a bit dumb. Do think he'll have a couple seasons where he catches fire and goes ppg, but I've given up on him as a future superstar

So apparently Michkov didn't want to be drafted by Arizona or Washington.

Interesting.

And I guess he might be willing to break his KHL contract for Philly to come over early. Perhaps he wouldn't have been so eager for those orgs. I wonder what it is about that org over the others in that range that inspired such confidence in him? I mean, it's not like Philly has a recent history of being well-managed.

The National Congress of American Indians, The American Indian Center of Chicago, The Chi-Nations Youth Council and over 1,500 Native organizations and advocates from over 150 federally recognized tribes across the country, including members of the Sac and Fox Nation, support changing the team name and logo. Members of Black Hawk's family have spoken out opposing the use of Black Hawk as a mascot and caricature logo.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. The only reason the Hawks haven't gotten the same level of scrutiny and pressure as the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins is because the NHL is a 4th tier league in terms of popularity in the US. They're resisting and claiming that it's a tribute, blah blah blah, but they really don't have a leg to stand on. That didn't work for Washington or Cleveland and it shouldn't work for Chicago. Especially with the logo, that's just terrible. At least with the name you can rebrand as the "Black Hawks" and put a bird as your new logo and squeak by. I get not wanting to change your brand after 100 years but it's long past due.

I can't tell if you are being facetious or not, but no it's not a respectful tribute, and yes the logo and name are problematic. It's from another time when anything flew and considering what happened to the indigenous people here it's not a big ask to make some changes. NHL isn't high profile enough for there to be a huge outcry, and look how long it took the truly ugly "Redskins" name to disappear in a much more popular sport.

Svech is this generations Patrick Marleau level star.

Not being facetious. I genuinely thought it was made with the blessing of the tribes he led.

I think they are different types of players. Zadina has some legit NHL skill and is a better skater. Kaut is a guy who really thinks he works hard, but in reality is lazy. He’s a smarter player and doesn’t have any real skill. Both have mindsets that they are much better players than they really are and expect things to be handed to them… so spot on there

I don't really have a dog in the fight, and I can certainly see how the term "Redskins" or the Indians logo are racist. But I don't see how the term "Indian" is more racist than "Braves"? Could Cleveland not have kept the name and created a more inclusive logo?

I do think having a team named after 1 person is kinda dumb though, and I think the Hawks logo is pretty badass, but if native people are offended then I'm not going to get in their way.

We should ban every word and picture that represent Native Americans. Actually we should completely erase them from history and pop culture because every mention of them is expression of deep hatred against them, and clearly Chicago picked that name to show how much they hate Native Americans.

I think it kind of boils down to the fact that Native American people are not a character you cosplay, or throw on some regalia and pretend you are one. Imagine if a few teams in each sport did their best to portray a generic white dude as their logo. The Ohio Crackers. Would it offend me? Not really. Does it make me feel narrowed down or pigeonholed as a person? Yeah I can see how it would, I'm a real person and not some caricature of how people see me, and I think that's where indigenous people are coming from.
