What's wrong with the hit? Hirvonen makes the nhl making dekes and the other guys makes the nhl making hits.
I think if you are ok with scrimmages being almost exactly like a game that counts, you are ok with the hit. If you think that's not really the place for that, then you aren't. Dillingham is a camp invite, and if you want those kind of players doing that to your drafted players - great - but to me it seems unnecessary and if the "keep your head up" lesson is taught that way, we'll just get some players seriously injured during same team scrimmages. So I don't like it.

Seems to me that he could have hit him, but not tried to kill him. Then go and explain to him, whenever he got a chance, that had it been a real game he would have hit him much, much harder. Maybe even show him on film and explain it to him with an assistant coach. The last thing he should be doing, IMO, is taking out his own teammates.

I am just amazed at what your hair really looks like. GORGEOUS.

Dillingham wasn’t trying to teach him a lesson, he was trying to make an impression with a big hit. He’s known for his physicality and had the opportunity, so he took it.

Hirvonen was trying to make his impression with his style of play and dangle through the middle. He didn’t keep his head up and tried a play that won’t work in NA hockey.

I can get the idea that it is a scrimmage, but all the players taking it lightly doesn’t show anything. Why even have it in the first place?

Something tells me that's the reason Carter Hart is on the trade block and no one wants him.

It's a frigging practice scrimmage game. That's part of the reason why you don't have full awareness and maybe try to pull off more skilled plays because you don't expect to get rocked.

If MacDermid ran Makar at a scrimmage like that, I can guarantee no-one here would be calling Cale to keep his head up, they would be screaming MacDermid to be waived.
Rookies vs Rookies is totally different than teamates vs teamates.

Suspension from what? NHL games, international duty with Canada, or both? If IIHF gets involved, we're looking at some hefty suspensions since they do not play around.

Swiss league, which is a little suspicious after having a decent season in the NHL at age 22.
I thought that was a contract problem though? He went to the Suisse because he and Ottawa never signed a deal before December making him ineligible. Looking back with hindsight, this move might make a lot of sense if he's part of the sexual assault.

Yah seemed weird. Teams dont usually let young dudes go away like that unless something was up. I remember TSN 1260 was all over it that day pretty much saying Formenton might be one of the suspects.

I imagine that I'll be even more disgusted and disappointed than I already am as even more light is shined on who was involved and the lengths to which this was all covered up.

I have no real understanding of the Canadian legal system, is this ultimate fallout of this likely to end in civil litigation, or is there still a chance/threat of criminal charges being brought?

Hughes has a type of contract he's shown to like. The Dach and Newhook deals are very similar. Both payments for potential, but keep the AAV down with a trade off for term and a path to UFA.
Does he need to keep the AAV low during the rebuilding years though? He's exposing himself for players needing huge raises right at the beginning of his contending window.

If I were him I'd rather sign them for 2 years and then long term. Chances are their AAV would be lower that way for the duration of their window.

To me, the moves suggests that he thinks the window will open sooner than 4 years from now.
