In addition It just feels weird to have a teammate make money while all the others don't, just because. That player has already been fully paid, why does he need extra comp?

It's an interesting theoretical idea--I mean, the NHL would want all their biggest stars to be playing in the playoffs, right? But I don't think it works. What coach would want to integrate a new player into the team on the day before the playoffs? I feel this is already what the trade deadline is for, to get hired guns for a short period to augment the team for a playoff run. Coaches have about 20 games to integrate them with the team.

Carbery is arguably the best PP coach in the league. Combine that with arguably the biggest PP threat of all time. 20+ PP goals is likely not out of the question, maybe 25. Which would probably put another 50g season for Ovi in sight... meaning sometime in 24-25 Gretzky's record is likely to tumble.

His coaching was the better portion here.

I didn't think he was a good tactical coach when he was here. He made some bold moves at the start that propelled that division-winning season, but by the end even mediocre coaches like Mike Yeo were able to run circles around him.

That said, that was a long time ago, and it's entirely possible that he's gotten stronger in that area since he left the NHL. We'll see. Like hench said, he's earned another shot at the HC hat.
