That’s f***ing ludicrous…. I mean Ottawa should obviously be punished. But it’s more of an indictment on the Chicago situation than anything.

Yep. How they received basically no punishment for that is absolutely astonishing.

Then to be "rewarded" with Bedard immediately after pretty much. Disgusting really.

Not just covering it up, they enabled it, in my view, by giving the guy a glowing recommendation to a college that wanted to hire him...allowing him the opportunity to ruin kids' lives.

Yup. f***ing insane quite frankly.

Crazy that the Sens are being punished more severely than Chicago for covering up Sexual Assault.
Absolutely f***ing ridiculous.

Apparently it was the Golden Snitches bitching to high heaven because they were made to look so bad in that failed trade that led to this. What a bunch of whiny little bitches in that organization. Never mind the fact that they continually toss aside players like dirty laundry, THAT is what sullied their rep around the league, not a clerical error by the Sens.

Also, the Devils did something worse (although in hindsight I think even that was still a bit harsh), got dinged with a first, didn't give it up when it would've been, like 29th overall because Lou just HAD to draft Stefan Matteau, and then they even gave those guys a compensatory 1st rounder when all was said and done. Admittedly, part of that was the new owner going to the league and saying "Hey, I cleaned up this mess for you in Jersey, throw me a bone here."

Now we have a new owner in Ottawa who likely has a much bigger mess to clean up, might be the guy who finally gets that coveted downtown rink built, and they greet him by snatching away a first rounder for something that didn't even happen on his watch!? The way this league does business never makes any sense.

By the sounds of it, it wasn't some "clerical error". It was Pierre Dorion straight up lying to Vegas about the NTC clause in order to facilitate a trade. If this is the case, the punishment is more than fair.

f*** Vegas and all that, but if that was us getting screwed over at the deadline because of a stunt like that pulled by the other team, I'd be pissed.

It just doesn't make sense to me why Dorion would deliberately lie about a thing like that. He's not an idiot, he had to know that Dadonov's agent would immediately bring attention to it and the league would void the trade. What would he stand to gain by trying to do something that he knew full well wouldn't work? Vegas isn't even in his conference, he has nothing to gain by messing with them.

The only reasonable explanation is that some underling in the Sens org f***ed up and lost/forgot about the paperwork and gave Dorion bad info that he relied on. A first round pick, even a future one for when the Sens will supposedly need it a lot less, is an incredibly steep fine unless they have clear smoking gun evidence that Dorion was aware of the NTC and ignored it.

I blame Pierre McGuire.

For the sake of the players and fans of ottawa… I really hope it’s not Chiarelli replacing Dorion.
Ottawa is the most sympathetic of the Canadian teams (if one can ever call a Canadian team sympathetic), but I want it just for the lulz.

Yeah. Really sad if that happens, but I won't be surprised since those Hahvahd toolbags Bettman and Daly continually burn up phonelines talking their boy up to anyone who will listen.

That said...now might be a good time to see if you can offer up Kurtis MacDermid for Ridley Greig.

If it is the Sens' choice of which 1st round pick they give up they might want to choose their 2024 1st because with Chiarelli as GM their 2025's and 2026's might end up top-5 picks.

Dorion was probably hoping Dadonov gets bullied into being traded somewhere he didn't want to be or that Vegas would trade him to a team that wasn't on the NTC list.

There's no way this became a steep penalty without an obvious smoking gun.

Ottawa deserves every punishment they are getting. The fans who are saying new owner means there should be no punishments are idiots.

Chicago should have gotten way more of a punishment but that's another story.
